"That’s just what translation is, I think. That’s all speaking is. Listening to the other and trying to see past your own biases to glimpse what they’re trying to say. Showing yourself to the world, and hoping someone else understands." Babel by R. F. Kuang I had high hopes for Babel and thankfully it didn't disappoint. This is the first book that I read from R. F. Kuang and I loved her writing style. The book has the vibe of dark academia and grapples with student revolutions, colonial resistance and the use of translation as a tool of empire. The characters of the book were done really well and I especially liked our main character Robin Swift, who has an excellent character development. The three supporting characters were really good as well and I loved the friendship dynamics between the four of them. The book takes place in our world but adding the magic of silver-working makes it unique. Finally, the research that the author has done shows in every aspect of the book.
