Showing yourself to the world, and hoping someone else understands." Babel by R. F. Kuang I had high hopes for Babel and thankfully it didn't disappoint. This is the first book that I read from R. F. Kuang and I loved her writing style. The book has the vibe of dark academia and grapples with student revolutions, colonial resistance and the use of translation as a tool of empire. The characters of the book were done really well and I especially liked our main character Robin Swift, who has an excellent character development. The three supporting characters were really good as well and I loved the friendship dynamics between the four of them. The book takes place in our world but adding the magic of silver-working makes it unique. Finally, the research that the author has done shows in every aspect of the book. Now, I knew who the villain was pretty early on, but it really didn't even matter to me because the book was so propulsive that I couldn't stop reading. The crazy "games" and the diabolical plan were so intricate and well-thought-out, I was in awe of the planning Ms. Urban obviously had to do in setting this up. She thought of absolutely everything! I stayed up until 3am the second night of reading because I literally. Could. Not. Stop. I just had to get to the end! Now, admittedly the end wrapped up fairly tidily, but that's kind of to be expected, I think, and I'm okay with it. There's also a wee teaser that perhaps they could be a continuation of the story, and I am here for it! Overall, Gemina was an intense and mind-blowing sequel, and I'm dying for the last book. If you still haven't read these books.... what are you doing.

Schwab is a YA Fantasy book and it is a standalone. It was published in March 2022. The last book of my favourite author is a standalone fantasy book that I loved. I really loved the story and the atmosphere that was created through the setting. Olivia, the main character, became very quickly my favourite and I really liked discovering the secrets of Gallant with her. The story was very gripping and I couldn't resist turning the pages. I was just swept away in this magical world. As we the other works of Schwab I loved her writing and how creative and imaginative she is. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig is a contemporary fantasy. In the book we follow Nora while she explores The Midnight Library and what her life could have been if she had made a different choice. I really loved the format of this book and the writing style of Matt Haig. It was beautiful and comforting. I will definitely continue with the rest of his books. The story was really interesting and it made you think about your own choices while you read about Nora's. It is a heartbreaking book but it is also one you cannot put down.
