Bruce’s eyes fluttered open. He seemed to do a double take, and then sat up. “Where am I?”
“Some schmuck’s trailer at the Boardwalk Circus,” Jerome said. “Before you get the bright idea to run, keep in mind there are two guys with semi-automatic machine guns outside the door. D’you remember who I am?”
Bruce scowled at him, as brazen as ever. “Whoever you are, you’re pretending to be Jerome.”
“Did somebody hit you over the head before I came along?” Jerome asked, almost worried.
“Why?” Bruce asked, his scowl fading. Now, he just looked confused—but, oddly, not scared.
“Not only are you under the impression I’m not me,” Jerome said, “but also that you’re not you.”
