Mickey moves into the attic w/Ian and Terry isn't allowed to touch him not as long as Fiona's around like HELL is anyone else getting abused under her watch she is tired and ANGRY.

Okay first of all what a great fucking dream! I rarely remember mine, so I am extremally happy your imagination gifted us this beautiful AU!

I am a sucker for a MamaBear!Fiona ™️ moments as much as the next person, but her getting protective over Mickey??? I am floored. Also I bet Mickey would be so protective over the younger Gallaghers from the moment he moves in.

How did she find out? Did she over hear I&M talking about it? Did Ian tell her?

Can you imagine- he's helping her with budgeting and clearing up their finances and she can see how crazy good at math he is. And she realizes that if he's this smart without going to class, his potential is huge.

Maybe he doesn't want to go back to high school (I mean, he hasn't passed a single class so he'd be a freshman) so they make a deal that he's going to get his GED and go to some community college classes? Or maybe being in school with Ian sounds fun... (think about all the hook up possibilities)

Oh my god, Ian and Mickey getting to have their domestic sweet teenage relationship in a safe and loving home. It makes me heart warm.

But this also means that, after everything that happens with Terry, Ian goes... where? He can’t go home. The next time we see him in cannon he’s at the house, his face is somewhat healed, and he’s collecting toys for Carl. But now I’m going to be obsessed with the fact that, in the immediate aftermath of all of this, he’s in the group home. How the hell do you even baseline process that in the *group home*?

As for a scene I wish had gone differently: oh BOY. There are quite a few, but I feel like we all have our own personal preferences for how we would have liked certain Gallavich scenes to work out, which is why ~fanfiction~ exists (and thank god it does). 

One of the ones that stands out to me when I think about it is the “Double Van Damme” scene (heretofore referred to as the DVD scene lol) that happens rights before the infamous 3x666 scene. As much as I hate with a passion what happened to Mickey (and obviously Ian) in that episode, I think it was a really powerful way of showing the disturbing reality of violent homophobia, as well as how far Terry was really will to go to fuck his son up even more than he already had. I wouldn’t have changed that scene, as demented and horrifying as it was, however I think there could have been a few things in the scene before it that would have spelled out the trajectory of Mickey’s character arc even more plainly for us, so here’s what I would have done:

We know that Mickey had just opened up so much and taken a huge step in kissing Ian for the first time a few scenes previously. We can see the after effects of it in the DVD scene, where Mickey has invited him in (literally and figuratively), and even though the scene is short we see them laughing, talking, and enjoying each other's company, which is enough to put a smile on anyone’s face. And the way they give each other little shy smiles at the end of the scene had so much potential to me. 

There have been a lot of Fix-it and Gap-filler Fics for this scene, mostly smutty, some not, (all beautiful and wonderful to read thank you EVERYONE), but I personally think it would have been great to see them actually acting like smitten teenagers here. Like the walls have been ripped away and Mickey finally allows himself to act like the kid he is. Like obviously their would be fucking later on, and leading up to the ‘scene we shall not name’, but think about how much more impactful it would have been to see Ian lean over and kiss Mickey after plucking up the courage. And then see Mickey, be a little shocked but then reciprocate.

I think if the writers had let them make out on the couch, slow, and sweet and clumsy, for just a few more moments on screen , without things immediately jumping straight to fucking it would have given us an even better understanding of how destroyed Mickey was by the following horrendous events. 

Sorry if this is a sad/dark one, but it’s the one I always think about! So no huge changes, more like a scene extension!

And I’m struck by how shameless used to know what it was doing. That episode is AWFUL to watch, but it has a central theme of parenthood that’s explored in like 10 different ways, and the central comparison is between Fiona, Frank, and Terry.

But it’s not hitting you over the head with it. (... no pun intended... sorry...) It’s just clearly there and clearly something they thought about.
