Replaying Nier automata and honestly I dislike the take of “the game really begins at route C” When like, route C wouldn’t have been as effective without A and B.
Cause A and B there was sense of life and while far from peace, a bit of hope and joy with 2B and 9S together facing it all. Route C really highlights the feeling of loss and dread with losing 2B that there is the weight of someone gone and no matter what can fill that void and just everything is more dangerous now and feeling of emptiness no matter how many machines you kill and more friends die.
I really despise “2B is the honeypot character that dies for the real characters” thing cause that just reduces her character so much. And you fail to understand route C if that’s how you see it. The emptiness and dread doesn’t work if her impact wasn’t felt throughout in losing someone important
This also brings up the anime in while it was amazing and beautiful adaptation. I wish it actually did diverged from the games in season 2, with having 9S die and 2B living through route C. Was a really missed opportunity to explore her downfall and loss and 9S’s emptiness.
