June 28, 2021: Queen Letizia attended the inauguration of the Joint General Assembly of the World Blind Union (WBU) and the International Council for the Education of People with Visual Disabilities (ICEVI), on the occasion of the "World Blindness Summit Madrid'21".

The Summit, under the slogan "The look of all", has more than 50 debates on multiple topics that affect the more than 285 million blind people in the world, with the aim of being capable in the fields of education, training, employment, autonomy, technologies, reading, culture or sports, among others.

The World Blind Summit is held every four years, promoted by the World Blind Union (WBU) and by the International Council of Educators of the Visually Impaired (ICEVI), and for the first time in history it has been postponed for reasons of the global pandemic Covid-19. In the "World Blindness Summit Madrid 2021" the challenges and objectives are focused on raising and intervening in the agenda of public reconstruction policies, in company strategies and in raising awareness of civil society.

In this way, also, “World Blindness Summit Madrid 2021” brings together the greatest experts in blind education in the world. Among those registered, from all continents, stand out Mexico (58 participants), Indonesia (36), Argentina and Chile (27 each); Canada (62); Australia (14); United States (25); Philippines (57) or India (10). In addition, there will be representation of blind people from countries as diverse as Afghanistan, Ghana, Haiti, Nepal, Kenya, Norway, South Africa and Finland; or from others such as Fiji, Belize, Kyrgyzstan, Togo, Lesotho, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe or South Sudan.
