cherry pie is far from being the most difficult piece in erin’s recipe books, but she’s learned that it can be quite the challenge when most of the assistance comes from a pair of tiny hands, eager to help each and every step of the way, but even more eager to play with all the ingredients and raise havoc. so, as the tasks become more and more complicated and the soft wrinkles on sebastian’s forehead begin to deepen, his sweet features growing visibly bored, the curly-haired brunette comes up with the perfect solution that will allow her to finish baking while also keeping the little boy occupied and entertained. ❝ would you like to paint a picture for dada? huh? does that sound like fun? what do you think, picasso? gosh, look at yourself, that’s not lotion, bashy bear, ❞ she muses with a soft laugh, wiping her flour-covered hands on her apron before slipping them beneath the boy’s armpits to pick him up and carry him off the counter. he grunts and kicks his legs, visibly displeased as his mother keeps him from smearing the entire bowl of filling across his chest and arms. she takes him to the living room and spreads a large sheet of paper on the floor, surrounds the toddler with different paints and brushes. ❝ i’ll be right back, okay? i’ll just put our pie in the oven. mmm, our yummy pie. it’s gonna be so delicious because you helped me out. be good now, my little artist, ❞ she coos, stroking his strawberry-tinged hair as he dips both of his palms in paint and lets out a happy squeal.
it’s a typical saturday morning for them, especially now that axl’s touring with his band. erin wants their son to have a normal childhood, even if his father’s job is anything but ordinary. so, she stills puts madonna’s on the radio as soon as they wake up, bakes pies and muffins, hangs out with her friends and their babies, arranges play dates to keep sebastian’s mind stimulated and busy. she’s explained to him time and time again that they have to share daddy with his fans, that everybody loves him and wants to see him, that it would be unfair of them to keep him from doing what he’s always dreamed of doing, but at the end of the day her son is still just a toddler who needs and misses his father more than anything in this world. when they were younger, during axl’s very first tour, it was just the two of them and things got extremely messy. she spent weeks ignoring him, thinking he was sleeping in another woman’s bed, doing all kinds of shady things. this time, she can’t let it happen. she can’t let herself dive into that kind of mindset, she has to be more mature, but it’s only may and he’s supposed to come home in november. she has no idea how they’ll survive that long without each other, what will happen to their family… it’s all terrifying to think of. so, she discreetly wipes the small tear that’s rolling down her cheek and focuses on the pie, trying to keep herself busy. she’s humming to herself as she absently twirls around the kitchen, dark curls tumbling down her back, the light blue dress she’s wearing flaring out around her slender legs. ❝ true love, you’re the one i’m dreamin’ of. your heart fits me like a glove and i’m gonna be true blue, baby, i love you. ❞ she sings softly, using a wooden spoon as microphone as she dances around with flour on her hands and cheek. coaxing a fit of giggles out of her son.

Found in the attic. A collection
To live in this world you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go.
