365 DC Comics Heroes & Villains Paper Cut-Outs
Initially, The Rubber Band Man was Kamron Stringer, a smalltime crook who received elastic powers from exposure to the Quantum Vapor. Seeking at fame, Kamron challenged Static to a fight and was easier defeated by the hero. Embarrassed and angered, Kamron fell in with Doctor Kilgore's collective of villains seeking vengeance on Static.
The updated version of the character follows suit with the Static Shock animated series. Here the Rubber Band Man is Adam Evans, a teenager who grew up in Dakota City. An aspiring musician, Adam had a true knack for writing rap songs and he made a demo tape for the acclaimed music producer, D.J. Rock. Rock claimed not to be interested in Adam’s music, yet secretly stole his lyrics and used them to make his own protégé, ‘Ice Pack’ a hugely successful musician. Adam was furious when he discovered he had been swindled; and yet D.J. Rock was a rather powerful figure and Adam had few options for gaining justice.
All this changed when Adam was exposed to the mutagenic effects of the Quantum Vapor that were released during the so-called ‘Big Bang’ event. Adam was bestowed shapeshifting powers wherein his body became highly elastic, enabling him to elongate his limbs and manipulate his form in various fashions. Now calling himself ‘The Rubber Band Man’ Adam made himself a costume and set out to get revenge on Ice Pack and DJ Rock.
The heroic Static witnessed Rubber Band Man going after Ice Pack and attempted to intervene. This would prove to be the first of a number of altercations between the two.
In the end, Adam was apprehended but DJ Rock was exposed as a thief and Ice Pack as a fraud. Rubber Band Man would later escape form prison and would have further dealings with Static. Eventually, he became something of an antihero and aided Static in dealing with the villainous schemes of his older brother, Ebon.
Actor Kadeem Hardison provided the voice for Rubber Band Man in Static Shock. The character first appeared in Static Vol. 1 #33 (1996).
