Sweet, sweet organization!! Pep got SO many new toys for Christmas and when we had gotten home and unpacked, it became suddenly very clear that we need some organization solutions for the toy explosion. I found these two toy organizers — a Delta Children space-themed one and a larger Humble Crew one — and for $100, this was the best investment. Ever. (Tumblr won’t let me add links, but just ask and I’ll dm them to you if you’d like!) At the end of the night I love cleaning up all the toys and looking at how TIDY the living room/play area is. So satisfying.

Pep is in a sticking-his-tongue-out phase right now and it’s so cute. He’s also super giggly and silly these days and he has learned to dance. It’s so cute, it kills me. If I start to boogie, he starts to boogie. This kid is just the best. Last night, though, B was giving pep a bath and he slipped and cut his gum on the tub. Poor, sweet baby. We iced it right away and gave him some Tylenol for the pain. He slept straight through the night, took his binky no problem, and seems in good spirits, but we both still feel awful for him. B was talking about getting something to protect him until he understands he can’t stand up in the bath. He found this photo on Pinterest, but I can’t find any actual products similar to it. Any ideas?

Maybe tub bumpers are an overreaction.. they probably are. Seeing that babe bleeding from his gum though, ugh! Scary.

Sharing one last Christmas photo that I hadn’t posted before, because how cute are my dad and pep sitting side by side like that? My dad set up their chairs like that so they could watch a soccer game together. ♥️😭

I’ve been having heart palpitations probably at least once a day since I went to the emergency room for it on the 13th after the first occurrence. I’ve read that they can be a thing during pregnancy just in general, but I definitely didn’t have anything like this with my son. The only time I can remember it happening was once when I was at my most anemic and was trying to climb some stairs while also talking on the phone. But this has nothing to do with exertion, it even started while I was sleeping last night (and then I woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep til it stopped because it was uncomfortable). And I was anemic as of the ER visit (hemoglobin at 9.6 if I remember correctly), but since then I’ve upped my daily iron intake from the 27mg in my prenatal to a total of 63mg, so hypothetically that should be on the upswing, whereas the palpitations seem like they’re getting worse if anything. I hope they’re going to do a CBC at my midwife appointment tomorrow so I can get an update on that. They didn’t last appointment. Last pregnancy I did eventually end up needing to take a total of 74mg iron daily to counter my anemia, but still.

When I was in the ER, the palpitations only stopped after they gave me a potassium supplement because my potassium was very slightly low. And I’ve had some luck since then getting them to temporarily stop eating foods with potassium (spinach, orange juice, prunes), but it hasn’t worked every time and I technically don’t know that it was the potassium in those foods that did the trick (just that those foods have worked, whereas other foods without significant potassium have not).

There’s also the possibility that it could be thyroid-related, but I’m not particularly sold on that explanation. My synthroid dose had been increased from 112mcg to 125mcg on the 9th, but that was because I needed a higher dose, and a few days probably shouldn’t be sufficient for it to build up enough in my system to cause symptoms, even if the dose were too high. Plus in the past my tell-tale hyperthyroid symptoms have tended to be a feeling of anxiety as opposed to standalone palpitations.

Anyway, hoping we can sort this out at the appointment tomorrow and ideally do something about it.

We had our 16 week appointment today. After a scheduling SNAFU, I got in to see the doctor only 45 minutes late. Aside from the slight implied guilting about screening tests (which insurance doesn’t cover and we don’t have the money for the out of pocket expenses right now) things went well. LP’s heart rate was 144 and sounded great! He said that my weight, the lack of weight that I’ve gained in pregnancy at this point, looked okay, and my blood pressure was great. The fact that I have someone telling me that I’m basically doing a great job being calm is a huge win for me!
