Grain Loops @ 107 Projects
A plug for a gig I'm involved in tonight...
Austin Buckett will be releasing his new LP 'Grain Loops' tonight at 107 Projects in Redfern. Grain Loops, released on Room40 in mid-2014, borrows from techno and hip hop methodologies. The sound pieces offering themselves both as discrete sound experiences and as ‘tools’. The resulting recordings are hyper-real, exaggerated and so utterly detailed as to be confounding. This is an exercise in control, focus and repetition. Thomas William will support along with Ur 1st Luv.

Darkroom Johnny Merkouris | Elizabeth McCrystal Darkroom is a collaborative body of work by photo-media artists, Johnny Merkouris and Elizabeth McCrystal. This mixed media installation explores concepts of Jean Paul Sartre theories on existence. The artists have reconstructed a photographic darkroom as a way of symbolically suggesting elements of the individual's existence. The artist draw on elements of analogue photography and darkroom processes such as timed exposure and safe lights. A video piece also accompanies the photographic works and is designed to emulate large format, view cameras where the audience must interact with the piece in order to see the work. Through the video the artists wish to mimic the idea of "life flashing before one's eyes" while also suggesting the incoherent nature of one's incomplete and fracture memory. Opening Wednesday the 30th of April 6 - 8 pm

AN INTIMATE SHOW WITH A DEAD FOREST INDEX
 '
PRESS FOR A DEAD FOREST INDEX
'A unique blend of chemically infused vocal loops, dark minimalist drum beats and sparse, audacious guitar chords… They are at one time a chugging indie pop band; at another turn they blend Gothic rhythms and Eastern European symphonies; and around another corner they are a beautifully disciplined vocal group.' Einstein Music Journal 'The individual elements aren’t so unusual, but the way A Dead Forest Index arranges them makes it all seem unearthly. The same goes for this entire EP, a quick yet lingering introduction to one of our country’s most interesting young bands.' Mess+Noise ‘A Dead Forest Index never take these easy options, their songs are tightly wound, the tension increasing to breaking point, but the release never coming. It has the impact of keeping you on edge, waiting, waiting. To be able to hold this tension is a major, and uncommon, achievement.’ Cyclic DefrostÂ
