salome serves up the head of john the baptist to her mother
salome wasn’t a temptress, she wasn’t wicked.
she was a girl of around 12 who was forced by her mother to undress in front of her stepfather-uncle to seduce him. then, she was given the severed head of a man who had done her no wrong.
this isn’t an evil woman who kills an innocent man, and it isn’t the story of an empowered woman slaying a controlling man. just a painted girl with a stranger’s head. the platter was heavy in her hands
