PERFECT QUESTION, I just had a weird dream! The following concept: Horror, but make it ancient history. I forgot the time period. Probably not a good sign I have to hold a presentation about this in 2 weeks. I was just reading about Meglithgräber and one article I read mentioned in passing that some archeologists apparently think that bodies put to rest in megalithic tombs (or just tombs my brain is fried by research I can't remember details) could've had their limbs tied together to prevent them from (*spooky soundeffect* *lightning strikes*) coming back. So naturally I had a nightmare about living in a prehistoric village and one of the buried ancestors returning after burial. And now I kind of have the idea of making a short horror story out of that. I was thinking starting as the classic Thing That Goes Bump In The Night only someone sees it...and it's a thing that's shaped like a man and it crawls back into the tomb at night and rolls the rock back in front of the entrance and no one can figure out WHO came back. No one is brave enough to climb through the Seelenloch and search the tomb to see what it does when the sun is up. If it's even in there. And most importantly what it does to the bodies. I haven't decided yet if it takes the whole body or just random parts or specific parts like. Idk the head or the lungs or whatevs. There's a debate about whether the people should worship this thing that obviously (some religious leaders maybe say) came from the forest and made the tomb it's home (someone swears it looks like lion...as in the carved statues if you know them if not lmk I'll post a pic) and if worshipping it would placate it only then it starts killing people... . And I was basically thinking starting of a cult (bc obvs as soon at the killings start they crank the religious fervor up by about 5000%) plus the question what is monstrosity, what makes a monster a monster, because the thing has the body of one of the dead, only even though it hasn't changed on the outside at all, it's unrecognizable as a person because of whatever makes it do things...but also there's nothing in the body except for what it was buried with...obviously in the end everyone is dead. Maybe the tomb is burned down because kill it with fire is the only option left (what's left of the village - people, the dead, houses - dies in the fire too and bla bla metaphor for something or the other) because there is a Galeriegrab in Hessen that is completely burned down and nobody knows why. Also it would basically be one giant headcanon of what I think religion was like back then. Just pure 100% vibes. To cut it short think the Kobold story from American Gods, kind of mixed with the concept of possession by something that isn't human, but not like...in the demon sense more in the 'animal but to the left' or 'noone knows WHAT it is but everyone sees something different according to their own intrinsic sense of belief like a bogart but not boring' sense. It's hard to explain.
