ngl looking at my art fight posts year by year im not actually sure im really worth keeping up with as an artist like i totally see why i fell off

#the goal for me was to draw faster but a lot of what i did just seems lazy and ugly lol #i understand why people on here are so hateful towards artists and writers it involves a lot of like. ego and self importance #that isnt really earned by default #that said... not sure if the haters are right... since i think it mostly comes from a place of self hatred and self denial #but i also don't know how to feel about the 'ok but look whos actually writing/drawing' own because im not rly sure what intrinsic value art #has #to be clear i dont think its good or bad it just exists and can be used for a variety of purposes #i was thinking about this and i think one thing i can say that is true about art is that its a deliberate allocation of value #whatever u spend time on with art elevates it within your psyche and that of others that see it #how 'good' or likes it is generally determines the influence of its argument #*liked #so u can be like hi this is my drawing that demonstrates how much i like fantasy #or. inflation. or a political message. or some trope or whatever. not necessarily a deliberate choice to be clear #and thats how people drawing 'for themselves' fits into it it can be a private affirmation of identity #though you can take a tree falls in the woods stance on it too ig but its hard to argue that somebody drawing will have no intent at all

the problem with me is that I'm prone to enjoying media full of complex symbolism and very intentional details, despite the fact that I myself am terrible at anything beyond like. the most surface level analysis. and also i'm terrible at expressing and explaining my thoughts. so the most you'll ever get from me in regards to media i like is pointing out the most obvious choices and maybe clunkily breaking down themes. at best

Adding onto my fellow anon, the series finale basically had Becky/WordGirl's identity get revealed to one of her friends, Violet. You can find the scene online, and it was beautiful written. I won't spoil too much, but it's like. Violet considers Becky her best friend, yet she's this Whole Other Person she doesn't know too well. Nearing the end of the episode, she kinda helps her defeat the baddies, and then there's another anguishing scene after that 1/2- GOS Anon

Becky/WordGirl takes Violet away from everyone else to just talk and is literally takes off her helmet and basically tells her that it's still her, and she's still her best friends, yet Violet tells her she's so much more than that, and as she walks off, Becky pleads with her to still be friends and Violet says "I.. I don't know... I have to think about it." and then she leaves, and Becky tears up and FALLS TO HER KNEES. Imagine if we'd gotten a scene like that in ML. 2/2- GOS Anon
