kay, with her tech, created amulets / lockets that produced artifical aura and specially made semblances that she coded per request.
( meaning, if someone wished for a specific semblance, she would code it into the amulet )
she provided this tech for free to her people down in mantle, primarily for those who didn't have a semblance or couldn't unlock it. other reasons include: wanting to save their own aura, needing a backup, etc.
the amulets can easily be recharged with lightning dust, which kay also provides (a dozen pack of small, dust tablets). the amulets can last up to two weeks (without disruptions) before needing to be recharged. if the "aura" had been broken or chipped at, then it will run out quicker.
the amulets will beep in warning if it's too low / about to run out.
this tech was eventually stolen by atlesians who then mass produced it, patented it, and charged the population, taking credit for the creation. its kay's current goal to steal back her tech and redistribute it to those in need.
