idk how to explain this well but i feel like a lot of people view western (particularly american) culture from the 50s-90s as 'normal' in a way that it's really not. like a lot of people (even leftists!) seem to think it's like, a... not exactly a 'glorious past' that was taken away from them, but definitely they're comparing certain aspects of the standard of living and feeling cheated by it. which i guess is fair enough seeing as they just narrowly missed the period of perhaps the most financial stability and relative class equality, but also that period was an abnormal stroke of luck caused by sudden wealth from winning the war or whatever. it was perhaps the wealthiest time ever for the west. it was a historical abnormality. if you think about the entire world and the entirety of history, it's really not the standard you should be comparing everything to
