he doesn’t remember how he got here, doesn’t know if he’s thinking of this particular moment or his transformation from average boy to a terrifying monster. in each case, it had started out a normal night, cold but not so freezing he’d worn a coat. perhaps, on both occasions, that had been his first mistake. both nights the moon was high in the sky, casting a gentle glow on the city below, the streetlights blinding below the black sky, but even so, he’d managed to find himself in a dark patch hidden from the eyes of people ambling down the street. 

that was mistake number two, or maybe it was much further down the list. he couldn’t be sure, but he’d never forget the night sharp teeth sunk into his neck, the way the woman had grabbed him as he walked past, her grip tight and unforgiving. he’d never be able to erase the sight of dark red blood gathering at his collarbone, staining his white shirt and the way he’d whimpered in pain. his father would have had some choice words for him in that moment, but all he could do was grip at her hands so hard his knuckles turned white, but even with all his might he couldn’t get her to let go. it burned, it burned so badly he thought for sure he must be engulfed in flames, but there was no smoke, only pain. terrible, mind-numbing pain. 

jisoo is dragged away from the nightmare replaying in his mind by a new sensation of pain that has him yelping, his hands flying out to grip the other’s, his teeth biting down hard into his bottom lip to avoid letting out a pathetic noise such as the one he’d emitted the night he’d been bit. 

“p-please, stop it hurts so bad.” his voice is shaky, breaking a bit at the end as tears seep down his cheeks a gasp breaking free when baekhyun stops cleaning the wound and lets go, giving jisoo a chance to calm down. he thinks it shouldn’t hurt so bad, that being a monster would come with its own advantages, but so far all he’s experienced is overwhelming hunger, guilt, and misery. he sets his hands behind him and leans back into them as he positions himself in a way that makes the injury easier to wrap, keeping his eyes up away from the wound as blood still made him a little queasy, at least, if it was his own.

“i’m sorry. for everything. for crying. for getting hurt in the first place i-- i wasn’t paying attention like you told me to. i just got so hungry, i couldn’t think about anything else.”

he’s still hungry, but it’s at the back of his mind, his attention hyper-focused to the task at hand. he knows baekhyun will patch him up well, he’s done it before. the other has done more for him than anyone else since his transition, and jisoo couldn’t be more thankful, yet he was still slightly afraid. what kept him from reporting jisoo and getting him killed? that idea was always at the back of his mind, which is why most days he would avoid meeting with the other, but it was times like these that he couldn’t help but call upon the other.

he was so selfish. he frowns. one day he’ll repay him.

s.coups: the dad ™ who drives the boat and takes the fish off the hook, can’t cut the worms so he makes someone else do it (he tried); attempts to make breakfast and almost burns down the cabin — ironically, he lights the bonfires

jeonghan: snuck snacks on the boat and gets upset that there’s no tv at the cabin, sleeps most of the time; can’t be bother to go fishing and when he does he just sits there, flips peoples hats off when they aren’t looking, s.coups being his most frequent victim

joshua: doesnt really know what he’s doing but is actually good at it? catches the biggest fish and cuts the worms when seungcheol doesn’t want to; makes sure everyone is okay 25/8, brought the sunscreen and the first aid kit

jun: falls into the water and drops his fishing pole into the lake, probably ate all of the snacks when nobody was looking, he packed a pocket mirror with him on the boat for when he gets bored; thinks he looks good in a lifejacket

hoshi: screams so loud when he catches his first fish and scares the rest of them away. is leaning over the boat with a net to try and catch the fish that way, almost knocks several people off in the process; falls asleep first and wakes up last

wonwoo: (filled with regret), wears sweaters and his headphones in the heat and doesn’t actually sweat, threatens people when they swing their poles near his face, rarely leaves the cabin and eats all the food; hangs out on the dock to read books and watch the sunset

woozi: “why am i here?”, finds he’s pretty good at fishing, thinks the nature is relaxing and writes songs in the summer breeze, stuffs his face with s’mores when no one is looking; is the last one to fall asleep because he makes sure everyone is comfortable, the ultimate softy ™

dk: names the fish he catches and cries when s.coups wants to keep them for dinner, gets knocked into the water at least once; tries to communicate with the loons and gets scared when they respond, impersonates the fish and other animals, only joshua laughs

mingyu: packs lunch for everyone, gets a hook caught in his skin every five seconds and is ostracized off the boat when he knocks the bait over; his life jacket is too small and his hat flies off (never to be seen again), was probably crying in the cabin until wonwoo brought him a s’more to shut him up

the8: laughs at literally anything jun or mingyu does, is the one that ends up killing the first fish and is scarred for life, drops bread crumbs to make sure the fish eat well; calls mingyu out for eating a sandwich on the boat without washing his hands with sanitizer, disgusted ™ almost the entire time

seungkwan: serenading the fish with his vocals, doesn’t actually attempt to fish but watches the others do it and makes fun of them; almost slips off the boat, is the first one to the cabin and dances around the fire, dk and hoshi join him

vernon: “we brought vernon?” no one sees him for the entire trip because he’s either sleeping or listening to music, comes out of the room to eat, bundles up in all the blankets, “has anyone seen my charger?”, used up all of the data so now everyone hates him
