Matt Dinniman: hey guys, check out this manly book for men! it has a strong american man protagonist who kills enemies with his bare hands and also lots of sex jokes! Anarchy? oh no, he just got this class because he deals with traps and bombs, he's only talking about fantasy empires when he tells the people to revolt. He's just hostile to showrunners because he's a hothead, it has nothing to do with how violating and invasive celebrity culture can be haha. He's friends with sex workers but gleefully kills monarchs? why yes, because the monarchs are evil, and the sex workers are fighting for their personhood just as he is, which has nothing to do with real world events. Have I mentioned the feet fetish?

Things have been hard for...so long now. I have just lost something, or am about to lose something, or am remembering the pain of long ago loss. It is not very Buddhist of me. Not very mindful. But fuck. I am tired.

The 3200 year old tree so massive that it had never been captured in a single image until recently.

This giant sequoia stands 247 feet tall and measures 45,000 cubic feet in volume. The trunk alone measures 27 feet and the branches hold 2 billion needles (more than any tree on the planet).

This picture took a team of photographers from Nat Geo, 32 days and stitching together 126 different photos to make.

Does anyone else remember when Elon was like "if anyone knows how to end world hunger for 6 billion USD, I'll fund it" and UNICEF was like "we're going to spend a month to make a plan to end world hunger for 6 billion USD and Elon is going to fund it" and Elon was like "actually, nah" and then bought Twitter instead?

I think that was one of the worst things I'll ever see in my life.

i mean this in the nicest way possible you guys but you NEED to take better care of yourselves online. getting severely anxious about mass quantities of horrible things you cant change every single day is normal considering the internet’s ability to educate on worldwide issues, it shows that you have empathy and that you truly do care. but relentless knowledge of constant suffering on this scale is NOT something humans are psychologically equipped to handle. it’s okay to shut off. it’s okay to just take a break and enjoy yourself for a while in your own localized space

It was half meant as a joke, but I recently read a post that was something like “If you’re not outraged, you’re probably setting understandable boundaries with the news you consume online”, and I still haven’t stopped thinking about it

Preach. I recently heard our country’s poet laureat argue against the idea that we live in a culture where if we are not actively suffering every day from the deluge of cruelty and injustice that surrounds us, we are somehow failing as a person. I join her in disagreeing with that. And the dopamine hit of learning all the new ways that people are asshats to each other is just not worth constant anxiety to me. And I do mean constant.

So, no. I choose not to. There are good things right in front of me. I choose to dwell in that space too. Because if I don’t misery will win, and I want to keep living.
