okay literally no one asked but bringing everyone more random (domestic?) elmax headcanons on this fine day ahem:
procrastinator max is very real to me but in the sense that it depends on The Thing and how urgent it is according to her so like she doesn’t mind changing or fixing a tire when need be or showing up to help a friend out but she’s bad with making doctor’s appointments so it essentially goes very quick from ‘oh I should maybe probably be worried about this thing and get it checked out huh’ to ‘ehhh it’s been a week and I’ve survived this long soooo 🤷♀️’ (el has to sit her down eventually)
max randomly loses things and by "loses" I mean she will absentmindedly be doing something or ranting about something and place objects down somewhere and then not remember and then get frustrated and restless as she starts looking for it
this CONSTANTLY drives her crazy like she’s calling out across the hall to el while re-opening a drawer again like ‘WHY do people keep moving my things’ and ‘el oh my god who took it (did you take it?) I swear it was LITERALLY in here yesterday this isn’t funny’ and then a quiet ‘ok nvm found it’ a minute later
el knows where everything is kept and also where everything MIGHT be kept lmfao pattern recognition + she notices the things max does (this helps a ton when they’re going out because the minute max starts looking around for something el just chimes in with a ‘front pocket’ before there’s a huge fuss about it lol)
el is not embarrassed to ask questions at all even if they might be obvious lol, if she doesn’t know she’ll ask, meanwhile max would just google it in secret or kind of ask in a casual roundabout way if she was a bit embarrassed about not knowing something but simultaneously also deeply terrified of being seen as incompetent for not knowing (if she DOES ask she might be a little sensitive to judgement so it comes across as sarcasm or defensiveness)
el is sooo unstoppable once she likes something and then finds out there are Several varieties of That Thing. I think el just likes reading the labels on products in the grocery stores because fascination and buying stuff out of curiosity but also like in my head it’s deeply funny that what if she has a jam/yogurt phase and then discovers MULTIPLE FLAVOURS and the hopper-mayfield pantry is just full of so many jam jars because el has roped max into trying them all out with her to see which ones they like the most (which is fun but they both feel sick of jam afterwards and end up avoiding it for a while)
el keeps old jars and uses them for keeping something else and occasionally adds some decoration + she’s very careful with opening presents and will keep the wrapping paper that she finds pretty (she has a drawer for things she has ideas to put to use and work with later and it’s just full of buttons and pretty ribbons and other trinkets)
el sometimes patches up/sews up old/worn but loved clothes with creative and pretty random colours and patterns (I like to think she picks this up from joyce and kind of continues to do it because the sheer normalcy of the process is kind of soothing in a way to her)
max is so unbearable when she’s sick lol like she’s so quick to get annoyed by the smallest things and she’s absolutely miserable but very reluctant to admit to it if it’s genuinely That bad (meanwhile she will be dying over a common cold) but el is so good at clocking the whole ‘please put me out of my misery but also don’t acknowledge me’ vibe and she’s just very soft and helpful with many wordless, thoughtful actions (and forehead kisses!!) and a lot of soup <3
el getting sick kind of terrifies max imo but she’s stubborn and refuses to let el push through it and would be hovering while pretending she isn’t and trying to distract her by making her laugh or rambling (and then apologise and and rush out immediately if el says she’s tired or gently scolding el if she sees her getting sleepy but still trying to listen and nod along) and constantly making sure she’s eating and drinking enough :)
max brushes off compliments when she isn’t feeling super good about herself or doesn’t really view something as an accomplishment that she should own up to so el often just repeats them back to her firmly until she accepts them!
