i would be a kittypet all the way in the warrior cats universe. if i heard a bunch of guys were in the woods killing each other for survival and they think i'm the lame one for getting mediocre banquets i would be like you guys are stupidd and then when the thunderclan medicine cat comes by my fenced lot to pick yarrow i would be like what are doing and shes like medicine so my clanmates don't die and i'm like wow you guys really have it that rough. and she keeps encountering me and one day i'm like why don't you come inside there's plenty of kibble and she averts her eyes shyly and is like ...no that would be against starclan and i'd go To have a little kibble? and she's like You know what i mean. and i do. 5 moons later she is getting adopted by my people and visions of her ancestors still haunt her and she is from time to time like Did I do the right thing...? how could i be so selfish...? and i'm like my toy mouse squeaks

do you ever think about how the straight world has this conventional wisdom of “women are really picky, men have to do so much to impress them, women are the ones who choose” buuuuuuut at the same time, women are the ones who are expected (and expect themselves) to spend hours getting ready for dates — shaving their whole bodies, exfoliating, doing makeup, doing their hair, wearing perfume, wearing uncomfortable shoes and clothes — while all men have to do is shower, throw on some nice clean clothes, and show up? women will do things like refraining from garlic for days so their breath doesn’t smell like garlic, refusing to poop at a guy’s house so he doesn’t have to shatter the illusion that she’s a non-pooping fairy, etc. it sure would seem like actually guys are the ones it’s difficult to impress??

if i had to take a stab at what this is, it would be that quite a lot of men will completely write off a woman if she appears as “gross” or ugly or fat or who knows what and so the “conventional wisdom” is only about “hot girls,” and “hot girls” are people who’ve spent 5 hours primping. but idk

anyway i think the point is that straight men often are actually quite picky and have a lot of (mostly appearance-based) expectations of women but we collectively say that this isn’t the case, even thought straight women are well aware that it is.

i know the way people talk about their pets now is probably how we’ve been doing it for all of history. a cat owner in ancient rome saw their cat lounging on the dining pillows and commented “he thinks himself to be the senator claudius 🤣”

This is part of my Ancient Civilizations class that I teach, which does a whole week about Australia and the Torres Strait Islands because I was sick of never seeing them represented in USAmerican history contexts. once in grade 6 I saw a 'pottery making club' in a ditch on the schoolyard- I assume at some point someone realized there was actually good quality clay in the ditch and when I walked up there were about a dozen 12 year olds sitting around the few girls who had brought their water bottles out to mix the clay, and a designated spot to put the finished bowls and tablets, and people going off and collecting sticks to make designs with and i really think that's the natural state of the human race
