It does my heart good to see the chances for a Labyrinth sequel/remake fade into obscurity
I guess me fear rn is- we’ve been getting a lot of Labyrinth content in the past five or so years. Likely that’s due to David Bowie’s death and they’re banking off of that. They’ve put out a board game with extensions, new action figures, deleted scenes, new lore-rich comic series, card games, tarot cards, etc etc… This is all pretty much because of Bowie’s death putting Labyrinth back in the spotlight, let’s not lie here. But the issue I see is that maybe this could lead to another movie?? Which could do a lot of things good and bad. For me personally, the bad outweighs the good. I’m going to hold off on explaining what bad I think could come of it because I want to sit back and see if someone else identifies it before I do.
Hhh I’m just gonna go ahead and say it because it genuinely is a concern of mine.
Having a remake or sequel done for Labyrinth is going to bring a mega fandom rebirth like you’ve never seen before. Which leads to exposure to a younger audience, which leads to more drama, more discourse, yadda yadda. We already saw that last year due to the pandemic and people- kids- being home more. And what happened last year? Unnecessary, misconstrued discourse. That’s one of my bigger fears.
It could be a good thing! A larger fandom, younger audiences being introduced to older media and comparing it to the media of today, more fandom content; and so on. But within my own personal experience, the bad absolutely outweighs the good here. Am I making sense here or am I letting what happened last year and really the past few years get the better of me? Who knows.
this!! this terrifies me. i’ve seen this happen too many times in too many fandoms. i’d love to see new content, and in turn have younger audiences exposed to the original film (and love it as we do), but it’s never that simple nowadays. i completely agree with you that the bad outweighs the good.

I said what I said
This was mostly last year but there was a brief wave of the “I’m not like other girls” personality in this fandom for a bit and I want to have it addressed. Maybe don’t make fun of people for liking a character just because you don’t particularly see it. It’s okay to not find a character attractive or not having a crush on them either. But using that to pick on your friends who do is plain shitty.
A lot of people in the fandom (not all) discovered their sexuality and gender through the movie and especially through Jareth’s character. I know for me personally, his character awakened a lot of repressed feelings I had been ashamed of for the longest time. And not only that, young LGBT+ kids and younger teen girls look up to this film as it is a coming of age film. For the 80s, I’d say it’s one of the better coming of age films for girls to understand that their fantasies aren’t wrong and are only fantasies, that’s it’s okay to grow up so much but still not enter the adult world entirely all the while still appreciating their childhoods. I take it personally as a queer kid who struggles endlessly with gender, sexuality, and romantic attraction. This movie helped me realize a lot.
So I’m essence,,,stop being a sick, you’re not as funny or quirky as you think you’re being.
