The way she sees through him and what he's doing. Slightly wrong in her conclusion, but still pretty accurate without knowing any celestial background. It makes him stop in his tracks, maybe even, for a brief second, think that she might really understand what he's going through. Hopeful.

He's trying to push her away, but she knows how he really feels. That being afraid to lose their is at the core of his strange behavior. Which makes what she does later, going out with Cain, even more frustrating, but I get it. He's still doing pushing her away instead of talking to her. And it's not like she hasn't given him enough chances.

The last little bit here is also hilarious. Because one, he usually holds doors for her and lets her go first, which is really sweet. And two, because Chloe's face basically says "God give me strength to deal with your son."
