Some time after the events of the game, someone (Howard or Angelique) notices he's overworking himself and forces him into a 5 day vacation.

Phillip, who is used to working a lot, quickly looks for a hobby to pass the time. He discovers baking.

He doesn't stop baking.

after leaving the island, Nessie more so hangs around Angelique's lab instead of belonging to the lab, like a stray cat that you feed

she enjoys seafood very much

like, he drinks so much coffee that he forgets to eat or stays up for days, and when it wears off he sleeps like the dead

whenever Angelique or Howard see him with a cup they just take it. Sometimes Howard will chug the entire cup right in front of him, not breaking eye contact, just to prove a point.

Molten Howard

He gets infected by a molten man, but instead of dying, he just keeps going. He's somewhat normal for a bit, but by the time he rescues Angelique he's practically half-melted. She thinks he's dying, but he brushes her off. Of course he's fine no he's not. He's never been better his body is rotting.

He's still Howard, but he's falling apart. The only thing keeping from losing himself completely is that he has to save Phillip. He has to keep going, for Phillip.

Howard is a Constellation, a mythical being made of stars. they live so long that they're practically immortal, and usually stay in the heavens, but a few were cast out and sent to the earth. Phillip is a close friend of his, but Howard is ignorant to Phil's relatively short lifespan.

Phillip is a Jackalopian Saytr, essentially rabbit bottom half, human top half, rabbit ears and deer antlers. They have longer lifespans then humans by about 60 years. He and Howard have been friends for a while, but he resents Howard's longevity and lack of care for lifespans.

Angelique is a human. She once wished to be a great sorcerer, but became disillusioned and became an alchemist instead. When she meets Howard and Phillip, she thinks they're an odd pair, but they're going where she's going, so she joins them.

One day, the stars vanish from the sky. Concerned, Howard leaves the cozy life he's built to look for his brethren; Phillip tags along to make sure nothing happens to him; Angelique joins for safety in numbers since they're heading in the direction of the kingdom of Greatmaw.

After an incident with a Moose Beast, Howard gets trapped in a human form. Things go downhill from there.
