“You’re welcome. Thank you!” Angelica said to them in reply. “I tend to get into trouble with my mother when my cell phone bills get too high. Hehe. I had a lot of friends when I was in high school. Although, they didn’t like how I was mean before.” Angelica said to them. “It’s a good idea to get one though. Just in case you may lose your favorite pictures or something else that is important to you. I wish you the best of luck on finding your cell phone though. I know that I personally can’t live without my cell phone.” Angelica said.

“oh, that’s completely relatable,” jack says with a chuckle. if it wasn’t for rapunzel, jack would probably get lost every single day of his life. thanks to her, he can usually rely on some sort of help - he’s received everything from directions to a hand drawn map, and appreciated it every time. now if only he could stop messing up for long enough to retain his hard earned memories… “i get turned around all the time. can’t say that i’ve gone so far as to lose my phone though. do you think it just fell out of your pocket or something?”

“That is a great name for a cat! It does exist. You just need to go to the right store to buy one. It’s a pleasure to meet you too, Kari. I absolutely love your name!” Angelica said to them. “Well, I still hope that you will be able to find your cell phone. I would also suggest calling it, if you remember your cell phone number?” Angelica asked them.

Megara couldn’t believe her luck today. First Hades sent her off in the middle of a storm all because he was mad at her and now she was stuck without a umbrella or anything to shield her from the rain. The only thing she could do was wait at the bus station drenched while it poured down on her. The brunette turned her hair and squinted as she tried to decipher who was coming near her. Her eyes lit up as she realized it was Hikari. 

“Oh Hikari, I cannot thank you enough! I’ve been waiting out in the rain for 20 minutes.” She held the umbrella out as to offer standing next to them under the tiny umbrella.

hikari blinked, momentarily caught off guard by the offer, but quickly squeezed under as best as they could. they were fairly short and petite, so it wasn’t that much of a struggle, but they did want to be mindful of personal boundaries and such! “oh god that sounds horrible,” they shuddered at the thought, “i hope you don’t get sick. if you want you could dry off at my place? i can lend you some clothes or a jacket? i could walk you to yours if you feel more comfortable- you can keep the umbrella even.”

dutifully, jack types in the phone number as the person standing in front of him recites them out. a quick message is typed up after that - if you have this phone, please meet us at the park! - before he pockets his own phone and turns back to the matter at hand. “why don’t we try retracing your steps?” he suggests. “we can start in the park, since you last saw it there. then just keep walking wherever you were going. i’m jack, by the way.” with that he reaches out his hand to shake, waiting for them to introduce themself in kind.

Anya was excited for today. She had saved up a sum of her money earned from her job for the first Sunday of every month.

For that’s when her favorite bookshop stocked the shelves with the newest non fiction and other books like mythology. She had gotten up early that day and practically raced to the shop. In fact she had sat on the step of it waiting for it to open.

But what she didn’t expect was someone else to do the same as her. “Hello there!” She gave a friendly wave to them as she beckoned for them to sit next to her.

it was one of their favorite times of the day. that gentle rise in morning where the world was still waking up. where life was starting to stir and hikari could perceive all that around them.  they woke up early, wanting to take a morning stroll and enjoyed the empty streets. even if the rising sun was just artificial, it was still beautiful to witness and carried a light hearted mood that hikari was happy to indulge them. they recalled a bookstore nearby that should have been opening soon- one that they had placed an order for a new book some weeks back. 

maybe they should go check up on that order, hikari mused changing the direction they were walking in. it was a pleasant surprise to see someone else early this morning. “oh hello!” moving closer to the person, their smile brightened, “i wasn’t expecting someone else so early this morning. no one else is awake just yet.” 

“hikari- that means, like, uh, light, right?” he asks, trying to remember his childhood education on japanese. “frozen pink lemonade is where it’s at, my dude, you don’t even understand." 

“Oh!” a flash of surprise could’ve been caught on their face. “yes. it does. not many people really know that.” their name was special- according to their mom and dad atleast. a light during dark times. to never give up. “fair choice, it’s a strong contender. i like to indulge in those myself, but i tend to get too excited and get brain freezes.” 

“I had a cat named Fluffy when I was a little girl.” Angelica said. “I always preferred cats to dogs. My cousins had a dog named Spike. Oh, I always end up losing my cell phone or something else, and I had to buy a tracker so that I can find my cell phone much more easier. Did you try buying a tracking device? My name is Angelica! It’s a pleasure to meet you, Hikari!” Angelica said.

“We used to have a cat named Miko back when I was a kid,” Hikari recalled with a soft expression. They missed that cat a lot, but they didn’t have a chance to take them with them when they moved out. “A tracking device? Oh no, I didn’t. I didn’t even know those were a thing.” They never really thought to get one since they had never really misplaced their phone before. “But maybe I should... Nice to meet you Angelica, I’m Hikari. Or Kari for short.” Holding their hand out, they gave a bright smile to the other.

today was horrible.

well.

no. yes, today was absolutely horrendous. it started this morning when they had accidentally slept through their alarm resulting in them being late to work. then they didn’t have time to pack their own lunch, so they had to go the entire day without eating. their coworkers were in a bad mood due to a rowdy patient that just had the strictest “guidelines” to follow when it came to their poodle. they got stuck staying overtime to help clean up the mess one of the animals made.

now in what seeming small vein of light that could have been finally being able to go home with the prospect of a day off tomorrow, the minute they stepped outside it had begun to rain. 

hikari stared up at the darkened sky with an incredulous expression, their hand gripping tightly the umbrella they had packed in their bag for emergencies like these. letting out a soft sigh, they began to unravel the item preparing to use it when an individual caught their eye. the familiar stance and appearance of one who had helped them look for their phone the other time coming to their mind. 

it seemed they too were stuck in the rain. 

“that totally works. i’m shaggy, by the way. figure we might as well, like, exchange names if we’re getting a lemonade.”

“hikari. but shaggy- that’s a memorable name. i won’t forget it. do you prefer classic lemonade or pink lemonade? or you could throw me for a loop and prefer frozen lemonade.”

“i do! he’s usually green, and-” rapunzel cuts themself off. “later! later is good. okay let me see,” she says, dialing the number into her phone slowly- she’s still not the best person with technology, despite her best efforts. it starts ringing and she takes it away from her ear, listening out for the sound of it. “can you hear it?”

“do you remember the last place that you had it?” he asks, considering the angles at which to approach this before he dives in headfirst. jack personally can’t imagine losing his phone, but that is helped by the fact that it would be pretty much impossible; he has his phone locked into his own anatomy, connected in ways that are not possible for humans. it’s impossible to lose. “if we start there, maybe we can find it that way. or i could text it if you know your number - maybe someone has it and doesn’t know how to get it back to you.”

“around the park in the early morning,” the memory calls to them briefly. the image of their phone in their hand as they leisurely did a morning walk. they were responding to a message from their brother, before they slipped it into their pocket to continue the day. yet when they checked their pocket later, the phone was gone. “oh! that’s a good idea though- my number is...” hikari steps a tad closer to speak their number to the other, partly because they didn’t want anyone listening in who could abuse their number. likely? not really, but still a concern. 

She smiled at her, giving her a polite shake of her head, “I’m good, I’ll take your word for it though,” Megara poked her head from her seat looking around, from what she could this girl wasn’t sent by hades but she couldn’t let her guard down nonethless. “Whatcha do for a living?”

“a living? oh animals! i mean vet tech, i work as a vet tech here.” hikari left the offer open, incase the other person changed their mind. ripping off a piece of their treat, they answered the question with an easy and open smile. “it’s a really rewarding job being able to help them. how about you?” 

“I haven’t seen a cell phone like that around here. You like cats? I can try to help you find it though. I like cats and the color pink too. Where did you last see it?” Angelica asked them.

“I love cats,” Hikari smiles brightly. The mention of their favorite animal never failed to cheer them up. “They’re my favorite animal, among the many amazing ones. Uhm, I last saw it around the park, but I tried looking there already.” They had spent the morning combing the location for the device to no avail, but maybe poor eyesight was already starting to set in. “I’m Hikari by the way.”

Mal looked down her nose with a smile, offering the lost item in an outstretched hand. “You need to be more careful about where you’re leaving things, dear.” While she may have not had the chance to acquaint herself with this resident yet, she could smell a good investment from a mile away. 

Megara looked at the woman in front, slightly inspecting the girl before answering “No I haven’t, sorry to disappoint but I haven’t seen much of anything at the moment,”

“i’m sure we’ll find it! in fact, have you for sure checked your pockets? your bag? i lose mine when it’s still on me all the time,” she confesses, grinning sunnily. “if it’s not there, how about under any of the furniture in here? I used to lose my chameleon under things all the time,” she continues, not realizing in the slightest that this is a strange thing to say. “oh wait! cellphones ring! do you want me to call it?” she asks. all of this is said in quick succession of each other, as if connected by the same thought.
