“Diferente” Cómic Pawry (Pawbert x Gary) Parte 7

Parte 6
Headcanon, after burning the patent in a desperate state of mind, Pawbert looks at the signs of what was once a home of a happy family. Coming to his senses, he regretfully realized he just destroyed his new and only friend's chance of restoring his family's name.
thinking about this scene
just obsessed with it and how much it reveals about pawbert himself + the lynxley family dynamic
this part where he shuts the door and mindlessly turns to walk away (seems like he isn't expecting his family to be there at all). its just a nice 0.3 second moment where we get to see pawbert existing with no eyes on him (except ours) because he thinks he's alone, and his expression looks so solemn/down. ofc, this is right after betraying gary/judy and everything else that immediately after. i think his mind's racing, thinking back to their horrified/heartbroken expressions. what did he plan to do if his family wasn't there right away? go off to destroy the patent without a second thought or kinda take a breather and just think? and process everything that happened? maybe justify himself a lil too (like x1000) to avoid any actual severe ruminations/spiraling because hey, you -can't- be mad at him. underdogs remember!!! 'gotta prove ourselves!!'
but ofc, that's not what happens. "YOU!" his dad screams and grabs him and suddenly its like holy shit dad uhhh dad WAIT don't kill me (!!!???). look at his siblings' expression - fear? shock? "holy shit i dont know what to do, our dad's real mad at pawbert, let's just not breathe for a second". is this possibly the angriest their dad has gotten (in a while) and that's why they look so shocked? are they worried about pawbert, at all, in general or BECAUSE of that anger? i word these things as questions because there's so many angles to go about stuff. they could very much be thinking "oh fuck" and that's it.
but this scene interests me the most, and i might be stretching some stuff but also if the stuff is there in the first place, it exists to be stretched. pawbert is desperate here, so desperate it seems like getting shoved HARD to the ground is basically nothing. all he wants is to get a word in, and it's not hard to believe this isn't the first time he's getting tossed about and roughed up. someone on TT pointed out in this scene, the way his dad balls his fists make it look like he's preparing to >HIT< pawbert. and while pawbert is like "WAIT WAIT WAIT" because he wants to tell his dad what's up, i can also see him begging to not get....you know. hit, too, in general. in this moment, and also just backstory fanon territory. there is even a small moment here where pawbert shields his eyes/head. perhaps to flinch away from his dad, or nothing more than a gesture to get himself to gather his thoughts.
(his dad did not hesitate to remind pawbert he doesn't belong in their family and NEVER will. he clearly hates him so much for reasons i wish were just canonically more clear, bc i love and need the details. i saw a hc about pawbert not being 100% his biological son or something and that could be interesting to think about too)
just a side note, when pawbert reveals his plan and these two just look like THIS. they're really staring at each other like "are you hearing ts rn" (also yall, im in love with pawbert's siblings cattrick especially)
this is another part that rlly stands out to me. just look at him, look how young and juvenile he looks here! "i did it for you daddy", it's like he suddenly transformed back into a kitten. his desperate need for attention and love is just plastered all over his face and body language it makes me feel insane. the white pattern around his eyes are so much fuller, they kind of resemble tears to me + make him look younger. in that last photo, where's he's kinda cringing at himself "oh shit i did that in front of the mayor", he really just looks like an awkward, ashamed 14 year old.
(how old even is pawbert? i saw someone hc him as 18-19 and i think that fits a lot)
but compared to these screenshots away from his family:
definitely more mature looking (tho granted he is "acting" here, aka, his plan's not revealed. i mentioned in another post i don't think he was acting all that much pre-plot twist, so what we see here is 100% normal pawbert, imo)
it's definitely just sad though. it's like watching all iterations of his childhood/teenhood begging his dad to be loved. AGH
"YOU!" and pawbert just clamming up, visibly tense and scared. oh shit, what's (dad) gonna do now? except...
he approves of you! yay, he loves you now pawbert!! but then, the moment's interrupted, and he never gets that physical confirmation from his dad. after this, it's just movie act 3 stuff, but it just lands hima and his whole family in jail. definitely not getting the continuation of >this< shoulder pat, let alone any more.
(i can't help but think about how jail time would be for them. all 4 of them, in one tiny cell? and, technically, all because of pawbert? yeah.)
just a pic i like. their faces.... theyre so 0_0 here
and a random appreciation for this specific screenshot. i just really like his face here, and i also just like his expressions in general. i need more of him!!! i understand why act 3 went the way it did, but im biased, and i love pawbert so much. i wish he was treated less like a comedic/cartoon villain to take down. i hope we see more of him in the future...!!!!
i just wanted to dump all my thoughts....or else they will stay in my head and i will explode
“yep, i should’ve seen that coming”
(pawbert when he changes his mind, and decides not to betray his friends.)

One of the things that strikes me about Natasha's death in Endgame is how much the character moments around her death focus on Steve, while the camera and movement seems to try and center Bruce. And it reads as this fascinating dissonance.
To start, we have the beginning of the multiverse heist. The characters are all quite specifically arranged, and Steve is right next to Natasha. When she says "See you in a minute", she doesn't look around at everyone - she looks specifically at Steve, and it cuts to him looking back at her, and both of them are smiling and hopeful.
But, when Clint returns alone, things are different. Clint falls to his knees, and everyone looks to him. Steve is already looking... "devastated" isn't the right word, but perhaps "struck" would fit? His breath isn't quite right, and he doesn't ask the question. Banner is the one who asks. The camera pushes in on Bruce. It is placing the weight of Natasha's death being revealed on Bruce. But Steve is clearly stone faced while out of focused. And when Clint finally looks up, he clearly looks at Steve, as the reverse shot goes to Steve looking like he's at a loss, and he looks down and away, as if hiding his face. But then we pivot to an over-head and it's Bruce who's moving - falling to a knee and punching the ground.
Then it cuts to the jetty on the lake. Steve's the lowest and most sedentary physically - he's seated. Tony occupies space over him, not assuming power, but still illustrating Steve's vulnerability in the moment. And Tony asks Steve if Natasha has family. And Steve replies that they were her family - putting that connection through him. Thor is in denial, and challenges Tony, and says directly to Steve (who is crying) "As long as we have the stones, Cap, we can bring her back."
And when Thor and Clint argue, Clint keeps looking towards Steve, including right before Clint says "it's supposed to be me." And during that section, we cut to a silent, unmoving Steve with tears clear upon his cheek. All the while, Bruce's back is to us, and he is also unmoving, but in the middle of the camera's frame as we look at Clint. But he is standing tall and not hunched. Where Steve is given a reaction shot, Bruce is centered in the scene by being present in the space even when not the focus in the moment. And by having him with his back to them, he's isolated from their grief, and is inherently being given an individualized grief.
As the scene on the jetty ends, it is Bruce again who moves drastically. He yells and throws a bench. And we cut to a wide shot, and Steve is still alone in being seated. But Bruce continues to be the one isolated as he is outside of the covered section of the jetty. The supports separate him from all the others, and he alone is turned to the audience and in the light. He is being given the weight of the blocking, of the movement.
But all the actual character weight in these moments is moving through Steve to me. The other three men are leaning towards Steve through the scene, orbiting him. Tony asks him about Natasha's family as one might ask a friend who has to start planning an untimely funeral, Thor speaks to him to reassure and gain reassurance, and Clint looks to him as he gives voice to his guilt. Steve is the one shown crying. He's the only one sitting. He's the one who turns away at the beginning of the segment. And he barely speaks. The entire segment, he has four words: "yeah, us" and "we will". And "we will" is directly in response to Bruce saying they have to make Natasha's death worth it - the words rouse Steve to stand and seemingly give him purpose, implying the weight of her death was on him emotionally, and that Bruce gave him a direction to focus his grief in. Which is a stark role reversal from normal, where it is Steve who is the one to help others take their next step.
To me, it feels like the construction of the scene is trying to give Bruce more weight than the writing does. And that the writing inherently gives Steve weight in a manner which doesn't quite comport with how it's filmed. To me, the scene is constructed to say "This is everyone's loss, but especially Bruce's" and the writing and the details say "Actually, this is deepest for Steve".

Something I find myself returning to about Steve and Nat is how they are so frequently framed together. Not just in the same frame at the same time, but visually linked in a resonant way.
I think back to the first time on the helicarrier. Both are wearing casual leather jackets. Nat has clean, new denim jeans while Steve is in casual trousers - ultimately both casual/work wear for the 1940s. Steve's hair is very Ivy league traditional, while Nat has a voluminous hairdo that is designed to evoke a certain classic spy/femme fatale look. Both are wearing casual leather shoes (plain brown oxfords in Steve's case, black leather wedge boots for Natasha). And this contrasts with Banner or Fury or any of the Shield crew. Banner has a suit on, wears moccasins, has a dress shirt. Fury is much more squared away, but has a cloak like duster/trench coat. The crew are all in military boots and uniforms. But there is a resonance - visually - within Steve and Nat
Throughout they are stylistically matched. As Nat's hair became more modern, so did Steve's. When Steve's suit became more modern military chic, so did Nats. When Nat became scuffed up and her clothes got disheveled, you can bet your ass Steve's were too.
Whenever they were on screen, they were visually coded as connected.
It was all very "This is a set, do not separate" in the very visual language of the movies. And it makes me itch that it's never resolved. That this inherent visual language of unison is never emotionally concluded. Even when Nat makes 'bad decisions' to protect Steve in Civil War, the ultimate undercurrent - their innate link and bond and soulful connection - is never given voice on screen.
Call him by his name
I sometimes think about the first time Natasha calls Steve by his first name.
It's strange to think about, really - By the time Winter Soldier swings around, Natasha and Steve have only shared screen time in The Avengers. But it's equally obvious they have worked together a lot for SHIELD. The constant match-making isn't something that comes out of nowhere. And still, throughout both movies, he is "Rogers" or "Captain". There is some measure of formal distance between the two. They're work friends.
And, so, I have wondered when the shift happened. This is a difficult movie for Steve. He doesn't know who to trust, or what is going on. He's flying by the seat of his pants, and the last time he did that, he ended up an ice-cube for the better part of a century.
And, we see him having a degree of manners with her at first, but also a lot of cocksure swagger. He calls her "ma'am" But also assures her there is one god before jumping out of a plane. By the time they're taking on the Lumerian Star, they have a polite banter. He's still professional, under it all, but he's clearly adjusted to the newer social norm.
But, it's still formal when he's shoving her against a wall and interrogating her. And Natasha is surprised. Surprised by this fierceness. Surprised enough that she starts showing some of her cards. "I only act like I know everything, Rogers." and revealing that she knows who killed Fury. But it's still "Rogers" - still a distance.
But, when Steve is shocked to learn Bucky is alive, but somehow doesn't know him? Then she calls him Steve for the first time that we see. And it's at the tail end of a sequence where she saves him multiple times. First, she literally wraps herself around him, cradling his head to move it away from the headrest just before the Winter Soldier shoots it. Then leading the Winter Soldier on a chase to create time and space. And then firing a grenade from the hip when the Winter Soldier is about to shoot a stunned Steve.
It seems obvious to say that it's the scene in the bedroom. That it is Steve saying he now trusts her, with all the complicated truths that implied. But it seems to have been such a deep impact. Maybe it was the way he literally protected her from a collapsing building before that, or his saying he'd like her to be a friend. But it is a tangible change. She will refer to him as Steve more often than not from that moment forward, and it feels like she has crossed some Rubicon.
And it is so poignant that Natasha, who is in so many ways the most private character in the series - the one who is most conservative in her deeper emotional expressions - is reaching out to him in such a vulnerable and tender moment with his first name. It feel specially intimate. Sam might call him Steve, but there was never a barrier to that. They were just two guys. And Tony is too irreverent for it. But Natasha builds barriers. And the second he was hurting - not just from the job and the danger, but from the revelation of a trauma he had thought buried, she reaches out to him directly, and personally.
I dunno. I think it's the moment that cements all the rest for me. Cements them. That she is so much more with him in that moment than anyone else could be. That she is seeing his pain in a way the others don't. Far more intimate than any simple kiss. I think it's the moment where, in my heart, they become fated to each other.
Lady Lihua simply could have lended Maomao a low-tier maid uniform but was like “nah, I want to see what she’d look like as MY Lady-in-waiting”
I wonder what Lady Gyukoyou’s reaction was when Maomao walked into the Jade Pavilion wearing a Crystal uniform.
Also, I think this is the first time Maomao was around Lady Lihua without her freckles.
