Devlog -- Entry 2
21st of June, 2026.
Days since beginning of development: 1 month, 1 week and 2 days.
Ok so today i didn't do a whole lot, i did however start learning gamemaker 2 basics instead of just looking up tutorials for everything i needed to do (hindsight's always 20/20, dont judge me), and i also came up with some worldbuilding bits; namely, that the way the elements in Periodically Fighting are born is that theyre made up of smaller atoms of their respective elements, these atoms all have consciousness, albeit very small, and when they conjoin beit by chance or by gravity (im not sure if that's how it works, but this is a fictional world only loosely based on real science) these consciousness all amount to something bigger, something sapient and alive. Anyway yeah if anyone has any gamemaker 2 resources thatd be extremely handy, not to mention if anyone would like to help out at all with anything thatd be great too

website update log #25 (June 21st, 2026)
Hello! I haven't posted an update log in a while, mostly because I left the website unchanged over the past year... and even if i changed some things, most of them were insubstantial...
...until now!
This blog is especially long because I wanted to go over the changes I made pertaining the design of the website, so if you just want to see the changes I made for the website, scroll down until you see Minor Changes.
- Overall Design Changes
Over the past two days I've been improving the overall look of the website, as I felt like it could use a bit more detail to look...good...
This is what the website used to look:
And this is what it looks like now:
Unlike the other major redesigns I've made to the website, this is moreso an update of the current design than a major overhaul.
I found myself falling in love with the UI Design of mid-2010's Nintendo products like the 3DS and the Wii U, mainly the physicalities of it where every single element has some sort of shading and shape that makes them really pop out, and I wanted to incorporate that in my website, so I did :P
Every single box now has a subtle shading effect, whether it's a panel, or a button! (you can see the effect better on the buttons as they are more prevalent there, compared to the panels, which are more subtle)
The navbar buttons and the normal buttons are now animated as well!
OH YEAH I almost forgot to mention... I redesigned the navbar buttons to be actual buttons with their names instead of just using their icons...
(RAMBLING UNDER... JUST SKIP THIS AND STOP AT THE RED TEXT if you just want to see more changes)
It's funny how things turned out because this whole thing actually began because i wanted to put the names under the icons for my website sections,
but my friend said that the spacing looked inconsistent as the icons AND the titles are spaced very differently, and favoring one over the other would still make it look inconsistent.
So I came up with containing them into their own boxes instead, as their boxes would have the same width, therefore it would be a lot more consistent.
BUT the issue now is that i needed a way to contrast the buttons from the rest of the navbar panel...
This part took me so unnecessarily long as I didn't really like how the colors and overall design looked.
I couldn't use the light green color as the button color as it blended the colors of the icons and text a little too much, and I couldn't use it as the button outline as it was too subtle to notice.
I also couldn't use the dark green color as the button color because it would render the icon and text invisible and using it as the outline color would be too contrasting and visible, unlike the rest of the panel...
So eventually, I came up with the idea of using the light green color as something that would make the buttons a bit more physical and 3D, so they're still contrasting and you can tell that they are buttons, but its subtle enough where you don't really get distracted by it...
I felt like the light color here was still a bit too distracting though, so i created a new variable for my color palette called (--highlight), which is just a lighter version of the light color.
After using --highlight for my shading and adding a subtle drop shadow for the entire button, this is how they look now:
(The animations and the way the normal buttons are designed came later on :P, the normal buttons using another new variable called (--dark-highlight))
Hello Im The Red Text
You may notice the lack of the dark mode button in the visual update, and yeah... that's because I removed the dark mode option... (for now atleast) It was getting a little too hard to manage, and with the changes I made on the way my website handles themes (i will go over this later), it just wasn't an efficient option anymore, so I just removed it. I am planning to add it later, hopefully with a more efficient way to do so, but it's currently not feasible.
For an option that's been here since the beginning of the green design.. RIP Dark Mode...
On another note, something I've wanted to do for this website for a while is making the other website sections share the same theme as the homepage, kind of like how I used to design my old website!!
Notice how they have the same navigation bars but their color and content are different...
Fast forward to my website today, the other sections for the website (like blog, artwork, games, myself, and misc) were never prioritized, leaving artwork & myself to have a barebones design while blog & games are just external links (misc is a completely different thing :T)
And so, I gave the other website sections the same theme as my homepage!
This is what the artwork section looked like:
And this is what it looks like now:
Now, it shares the same design as the homepage and the only difference is the color palette. I gave the artwork categories their own unique layout too, independent of the homepage theme.
Here are what the other pages look like:
(misc is unique especially, as the way the terminal was coded meant that I couldn't figure out how to contain it to a panel, so I made it look like somebody ripped off the bottom of the website, exposing the terminal under.)
And that's it for the updated look! It's not a major redesign, as it's still based on the flat design, but I hope you like it!
- Minor changes
Anyway, onto the minor changes I made over the year. You may see the revamped sections throughout my documentation, so I do need to clarify that the changes I'll talk about came before said revamp but after the last update log (April 13th, 2025).
Divided the art in artwork into their distinct sections. (Fan-art, 128, and Other Art)
Added a commit history panel
Gave every artwork more nuanced descriptions
...and that's basically it! Yeah. Three Minor Changes.
Whew... You finally reached the end heehee... Sorry I rambled on a little bit when it came to the design, but it was something I'm really proud of, and like I said, I hope you like it too.
My website is in a state I'm super happy with so I rarely change anything on it, and even if I do change things, its mainly minor. The overall design update just prompted me to make another website update log, so don't expect me to make another one anytime soon... /j
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I really appreciate it :>
