back on my "wanting to write book characters no one knows" bs

as jade realizes his voice is steadily rising in pitch, he cuts himself off abruptly with a half-gasp, the noise bubbling in his throat, brows furrowed in frustration. one hand delicately raises after a beat of silence; jade turns halfway from the bar to face henry, corners of his mouth turning up into a sheepish smile. "sorry." a cursory apology, but sincere. "not your fault. i shouldn't be yelling." god, what a place to learn that lesson. misery sweeping over his expression, he turns his attention back to the mess of a bartop, half-empty bottles littered around, fingers wiggling over the selection until they grasp around the neck of a bottle of dark-green glass, fuller than the rest, the liquid sloshing as jade raises it triumphantly to henry. "come on, henry. take a little break with me. i'm fucking sick of thinking."
i'm annoyed with the episode for a million reasons but i do feel like blue's character development has stalled + they keep giving him amnesia about all the shit his mom's pulled. why does he keep giving her credit? "i didn't think that far ahead" baby she is manipulating you again, i know you're not that stupid, i KNOW you see it!!! the entire family drama is at a point i'm sick of it because there is no way to write dixie into "redemption" imo and i wish blue was able to consistently have a backbone and acknowledge his mother's abuse of him. but it's like they are terrified of calling it abuse or something. and why has he barely gotten scenes with ryan or don lately? also the whole "ick" thing with taylor just felt. unnecessary. like if she doesn't like all of these things about him NOW she's definitely not going to like them later. i get that it was challenging having him show up/move in with so little notice but i also feel like they're just not giving him much to work with and going too hard on the "golden retriever energy" with his character. he was getting such good depth for a while; i miss that
randall is the kind of guy who almost exclusively listens to rap and metal. the white boy who religiously listens to eminem and swears he sounds "just like that" when he raps (he does not). he's listening to bvb and hollywood undead like it's 2009. he is a juggalo but lowkey

sorry to #complain kjndkjnsk but i continue to just not know wtf to do with my blogs. i do want to write so many characters but for 80% of them i feel like i need to be refreshed but i have NO drive to rewatch anything (basically all i have been doing this year is reading) and for the characters i do think i have a grasp on still/have some motivation to write, i just feel like there's not really a place for them in the rpc. maybe this is just a silly post to make but i just feel like i don't know my place around here anymore!! it's a dumb feeling and i don't know what to do about it
she's not sure she's ever really felt known — not by herself, not by her family. for so long, by her call, not by any 'friends' she made along the way. and for the past few years, it's felt like everyone only ever thought they knew her, making up their own narratives, making their own fun out of her life, but... it's always been different with him, in a way that actually feels safe, and she wasn't sure what to do with that for the longest time.
but now, she can smile... bashfully, a rare innocence she feels that makes her feel safe. "and i still haven't found a red flag..." she says casually, smirking up at him as her hand rests at the center of his chest, her eyes narrowing in on him after a moment. "—how's it feel? have i scared you yet?"
his grin is wide and bright like a mid-day summer sun, the creases of danny's eyes indicative of his affection, so deep, all-consuming. instinctively his hand lifts to cover hers, these minute touches coveted always, especially when their conversations drift towards more serious topics... which this undoubtedly is, despite sam's tone. softly, lips purse, and he shakes his head, canted slightly questioningly.
"would it be a red flag if i said i was confident you won't?" said playfully, but there's a whiff of sincerity to the words: danny doesn't think she will. he wants to be the best for her, considers himself a good man... but he still worries sometimes he doesn't do enough for her. "nothin' scares me, baby," he adds solemnly, squeezing her fingers, before lifting them from his chest to his lips, kissing the tips individually.

is it time for me to finally talk about ruston vance (as if i am not speaking about him every second of every day to you)? well yes. especially after rewatching the movie with you and rereading the first book the past few days <3 rust really was a life-changing character in 2025 and i'm so glad to have met him. i've said it a dozen times but it continues to be so important to me that he's a country boy cliche and proudly gay as well. i love how he's bitchy and emotional and sensitive and "the least likely to get over it". i love the unflinching way he commits violence for those he loves. i love how he smiles when his father blows up some clowns. i love that rust, a cis man, has no issue with stepping up to a transphobic cop and vehemently defending jerri. i love how paternalistic he is towards her and how easily he falls into step with quinn and how fiercely and quickly he cares for people and how he goes out of his way to help people he doesn't even particularly like (he's SO quick to die not only for cole but also to get matt and ronnie and quinn out of danger in the silo as well? my boy is so good). he is jealous and mean but so full of love. he has so much complexity and nuance and i love when he gets to be contradictory because it feels so human. adam is so good at writing characters who feel HUMAN
