He sat back in his chair, his hands settling into the pockets of his hoodie- his security blanket so to speak. He remembered Darlene teasing him about it. That seemed like a lifetime ago. Well, at least this time he remembered his sister.

Wait. What was he doing…shit, he thought, the doctor asked him a question.

“Uh, I saw my dad, but, he died when  I was eight.” As Elliot spoke, he looked up at Doctor Coleman. Elliot could tell he was exhausted, so he didn’t want to waste his time.  “I used to see a shrink. I was supposed to take medication and I didn’t. I took morphine instead to numb everything. I took suboxone to counteract withdrawl.”

Why was he telling him all this? Maybe it was because he knew what was at stake. With Krista, yes he’d been court mandated to see her- but other than that there was nothing really at stake. Now? If he fucked this up, he could be kicked out of this community and he’d be back out in the apocalypse on his own.    As much as he liked being alone- that wasn’t the smartest or safest option, and he knew that.  

“When zombies happened, I had time to get clean. And I started to feel better, stopped seeing him. And when I got here, I gave myself a routine, which, kept me busy. But then last week, Frankie said something to me and I hadn’t heard her-  and there he is- my dad, giving me shit because I wasn’t paying attention.” So he told Frankie, and now here he was.

     As Elliot spoke, Riley wrote everything down. He knew this was going to be hard, considering there’s not medications being made to help Elliot cope with his mental issues. But Riley was determined. He was going to help this kid to the best of this abilities. Riley looked up from his notepad. “Where you close with your father?” He assumed Elliot wasn’t due to what he saw. But he had to ask none the less.

     “I’m happy to hear that you got clean and where feeling better. I do hope I can get you like that again. Getting a routine is good so keep doing that. Did something happen that maybe triggered you to see him?” Too Riley it seemed Elliot knew what was reality and what wasn’t. But he honestly didn’t like the idea of Elliot going out on supply runs. If he’s seeing things he could get himself or someone else killed. “Do you feel safe going outside the walls in this state?”

When he helped her in, there was a small semblance of a smile on her features as she thanked him. But after that, it was mostly a quiet drive while she tried to focus on the radio. Emma didn’t want to be intrusive, and she wasn’t trying to. But his thoughts were loud and made her queasy in the pit of her stomach. He’d lost his wife, and their kid…and now Emma felt like she was throwing this at him when he probably wasn’t ready.   She felt like shit-   he deserved so much better. When he pulled into the coffee shop, she was shaken from her thoughts.   What the fuck was she going to do?

     As he parked the car, he realized he said nothing during the whole drive. Which made him feel stupid, its not like him. It wasn’t like there won’t be time to apologize later. The whole reason of them coming here was to talk things out. With that thought, Riley turned the car off and got out. 

     Riley slipped his keys in his pocket as he walked around and opened the door for her. “Let me know if I’m being overbearing?” He knew some women didn’t like this sort of treatment and he honestly didn’t know much about Emma. The last thing he wanted to do was to scare her off.

It kept failing to completely register in Sparks brain that she was walking on egg shells around him. Wincing as he spoke to her, her hands gripped the rail in front of her tightly. She released her grip when he told her she didn’t have to be his wife. Sparks would have thought she’d be pressured into, relief filled her. Cautiously she glanced at him, and her knees weakened as his were already facing her. 

“They’re all I k n o w.” A confession. She’d been with Rick and their crew for a very long time now in terms of these new horrid world. They’d saved each other’s lives countless times. Sparks couldn’t hold his gaze for too long due to her utter fear of him. Biting back the words of what she truly felt, that under Rick’s rule she’d never been a prisoner or a slave. Unable to say anything this to him, her eyes fell upon the workers again 

“Have you known any of them for that long?”

     Well, this was now awkward. If he ever was reunited with his brother he’d be the exact same way. So he understood where she was coming from, in a sense. But Negan didn’t want anyone here to feel like a prisoner, well besides that Daryl guy and a few others who broke the rules, but everyone else? No, they were here of their own free will. “Only two, my top guys Simon and Thomas.” He paused, making a face. “Why? And don’t try that reverse psychology shit on me either.”

“No. I know who’s in charge,” he drawled in reply.

For how much longer, he wasn’t sure. Eventually everyone would get sick of his shit and he’d have an unstoppable rebellion on his hands.

Rick gripped Lucille. “But you can’t have him back,” he added standing his ground.

His hold on Negan’s weapon of choice lasted long enough to convey his determination to keep his friend - only relinquishing control of her when he was sure he wasn’t going to be attacked as soon as the bat slipped from his fingers.

“So I say we negotiate.”

     For a long time, Negan just stared at Rick. He never negotiated with any of the communities before. But at the same time none of them ever put Negan in this sort of position either. There was just something about the people of Alexandria that he didn’t like. In fact, he was half tempted to just cut his loses and let them go. Although, that might cause the other communities to notice and start acting the same way.

“Uh, sure,” she replied a little confused.

It would appear that getting out of there quickly wasn’t going to happen. Sydney had no clue what the fuck was going on with this guy, but he did have flare. She hated to admit it, but she couldn’t help but wonder what other pagentries he had in his arsenal.

“Lead the way,” she said with a quick smile before following him out of the room.

What the fuck was she going to do now?

     Carrying Lucille with him as he went out the door, the smug smile still present on his face. They came to their first stop on the list. It was a big room that was filled with people eating at tables. But once Negan appeared at the top of the stairs, the whole room went silent as they all got down on their knees and bowed. He indicated for them to carry on and they did as they where told. He turned to his guest. “This is the cafeteria, as I’m sure you can tell by all the food and laughter.”

He made a face while he tried to hide back the smile. He turned his brown eyes upward with an exaggerated but playful roll.

“Gross. Stop. Yeah I don’t need to do that to myself. I save old ladies- not run off with them.”

     The leader couldn’t help but laugh, he just loved teasing his nephew. “And I’m sure as shit they enjoy being saved by a ladies man like yourself! Love to pinch your fucking cheeks and all that.”

“That you are.”

With a smile, she lowered her hands down to his chest, before she took a small step back. She had a good thing here, even if it wasn’t anywhere near conventional. He was good to her; he was funny and handsome. She was safe here. That’s what mattered now, right?

“Alright, you go be the man in charge. You know where  to find me when you need a little TLC.”

     “Of course I do.” He smirked once more. Marin had always been his most favorite wife, mainly because she actually seemed to enjoy their arrangement. At least he ha done good wife, right? “I’ll see you later then.” With that being said, he left the room and started making his daily rounds at the compound.
