Hey angels! Just wanted to share a post about some fabric changes I have made. Bamboo velour is a super popular fabric but I have decided to stop using it, alongside all other bamboo based blends. . Despite what you may have heard, Bamboo knit fabrics (jersey, velour, fleece) are NEVER certified organic, due to the (toxic) chemical processing of the wood pulp that is required! The plant may be grown organically, but the extensive processing into fabric renders it as a form of rayon which isn’t GOTS organic certified. That’s why bamboo is so buttery soft - the chemical process. This fact never felt good to me. . Another part of my reasoning behind giving up bamboo velour is the insane amount of shedding this fiber does. Both in production and washing, velour loses thousands of particles. Those particles contain 2% spandex (spandex is a synthetic plastic based fiber - more about that soon 🤐) and are a form of pollution. Microplastic pollution is actually poisoning the ocean and waterways, and synthetic fibers are a big culprit. Most bamboo blends contain anywhere from 2-10% spandex. . From this point forward I’ve decided to refocus on truly organic blends that are spandex free too! Will share a proper post about that soon, the use of spandex is a huge topic. . Did you know this information already? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for reading lovely ones. 💜🌱
