A reminder that lots of NAZI soldiers didn't know the full extent of what the NAZI party was doing, many of them broke down into tears and later ended their own lives because they unknowingly aided a fascist government in colonizing and committing genocide. They genuinely thought they were fighting for the safety of their country because that's the information they were fed. The man who dropped the bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima had similar regrets, he didn't know the fully extent of the destruction he was causing.
Celebrating the suicide of somebody who realized what they or their government has been doing shows a lack of compassion. Unrepentant oppressors don't deserve it, but those who realize they've done wrong and feel the only thing they can do to make the world better is ending their own life do. Because they could make change, but the guilt is far too much for them to bare.

Bowie could have been a much worse character had they just stuck with him being a scheming gay instead of having Raj come in as the manic pixie dream boy.
I actually get this the OCD thing, I'm particular but not to the level of OCD. Both my dad and my boss have diagnosed OCD (my dad also has Tourettes, non-vocal).
I can kind of see the thing with ego-centric not necessarily being you're narcisistic. I don't have an inflated self image by any means, i constant struggle with criticizing myself actually. I am, however, autistic and I have had moments where I thought I was an expert on something historical, acted egotistical about my knowledge and then got put in my place by an actual historian friend of mine.
I'm willing to learn, but how is saying you've had an intrusive thought internalized ableism (assumed that's what this post is about)?
And I know a few sociopaths, most of them are very friendly people, mostly because sociopathy usually comes with an intense need to be liked by others while also not feeling anything while seeing others in pain, it's a genuine disorder. I've also known highly empathetic people who are very callous.
My past experience with schizophrenic people has given me the knowledge that they aren't erratic when they're in a stable (or at least seemingly stable) environment, at least when they're not on medication. On medication they're pretty stable. It's the same with bipolar disorder.
Hey... so... something happened to me about 5 years ago and I wanted to talk about it
Trigger warnings for sexual assault.
About 5 years ago I was raped by my best friend. While I'm non-binary, I am biologically male. Me and this friend had dated a few years prior to this happening, I broke up with her but we stayed friends because there were genuinely no hard feelings, just no romantic love on my end.
Despite having dated for three months and being very physically attracted to each other, it wasn't until 2020 that we'd started havening sex. This was a friends with benefits things, she'd just gotten out of a relationship, I was a virgin, and it was the middle of a global pandemic where people couldn't really go out.
And it was fun until she started developing feelings for me again. it went from platonic intimacy for mutual pleasure to a one-sided romance. This is where I ended that relationship, being perfectly honest with her about what had happened and she agreed. It wasn't wasn't healthy for either of us.
And nothing happened for about a year after that, our friendship seemed to return to normal. Then I invited my facebook friends to the bar for karaoke, she was the only one to show up, by the time we left I was pretty drunk. I went home with her to hang out for a bit after and she told me her hot water wasn't working. Because I was drunk I offered mine, as she lived a 10 minute walk down the road. So she came over and ended up staying the night. Now, we did share my bed, but this bed was a king sized bed that my grandparents had given me years prior, you could have fit a whole other large human being between us and neither of us was small.
After a few hours she woke me up. Asked if I wanted sex, tired, still very drunk and horny I agreed. This is the first place where I'd argue I was raped, taking advantage of somebody's inebriation to get in their pants is rape. But, if you're going to argue that the fact I can remember this at all shows I wasn't too drunk to be taken advantage of, the next part is far worse.
WE'd had unprotected sex a few times and every time I was in her I could feel her IUD (a form of birth control for those who don't know). I couldn't feel it this time so I told, without letting her know I couldn't feel it in her, that I didn't want to finish inside. She agreed to get off when I asked her to and we continued but as soon as I told her I was close she doubled down, when I tried to force her off of me she held my arms down and wrapped her legs around my waist. She forced me to finish inside of her. A week later she was pregnant. A week after that she had a miscarriage (or an abortion, the miscarriage could have been a lie).
And then she went off her medication and we had a "relationship" where even when I wasn't there, I was. She got aggressive enough that I genuinely thought that she might hurt me if I disagreed to have sex with her. She got mad when I couldn't finish because of anxiety. And then when I finally started talking about somebody I was getting into an actual relationship (who also gave me an excuse not to spend time with her). She lost it and broke up with me.
Now I have a near heart attack every time I see somebody who looks even remotely like her. I get frequent feelings like somebody's watching me and feel the need to look over my shoulder or out the window of my basement suite to make sure she's not there. I know she's not, I've talked to mutual friends who've told me she doesn't want anything to do with me (I was just making sure she was alive at the time). And this has affected my ability to date, everytime somebody shows an enthusastic interest in me I immediately get this irrational fear she's going to try and pull the same shit my ex pulled. I know she won't, I know most women aren't like her, but I still have that fear that they will be because it's happened.
Is this what it's like for women? The constant fear that the person you're dating might be one bad day away from really hurting you?
I know it doesn't hasn't nearly as often for men (and before you suggest it, I am seeking therapy) but it's experiences like this that make me the feminist ally I am today.

I don't think it's a conincidence that Hideki Anno is a feminist who writes stories about toxic masculinity when he was mentored by Hayao Miyazaki.
We often see people's true views through their art.
Anno is jaded and has been since his early 20s criticizing how young men in his generation viewed and treated women through some of the most intensely thematic storytelling. And he didn't even really know he was doing it according to him.
Miyazaki, despite being outwardly jaded and angry constantly, consistently makes films full of hopeful messages.
It's often said that if you like Evangelion, Anno hates you.
I love Evangelion because it's a visual example of literary fiction.
I do not agree with veganism as a moral standard. If it is your personal moral stance, that is fine. If you think humans eating meat is inherently immoral, I donβt want to deal with you, youβre hopeless. Vegan ideology behaves more like a sect of evangelical Christianity than a dietary choice.
I'm working my way to being vegan for a couple reasons.
Health. Eating meat as much as our society eats meat isn't healthy at all. Humans naturally eat a mostly vegan diet.
I looked at my dog, a golden retriever, which are eaten in some places around the world, and I asked myself why a set this boundary. I'm not saying you're a bad person if you eat meat and would never force you to do it, I just can't do it myself.
Now can we talk about how anti-vegans tend to be far more annoying that vegans.
The only thing I'd add back in is the battle announcer to gym battles that they had in Stadium. Gen 8 could have made amazing use out of this due to how they handled the League.

Did your job/what you do for a living exist 200 years ago? (early 1800s)
Yes, in essentially the same basic form
Yes, it's pretty different but some form of my job existed then
Not really; there were jobs that bear some similarity but nothing equivalent
No, nothing like my job existed then
My answer to this is complicated
I have no clue
Not employed/show results

"Same basic form" would include things like (for example) teachers or doctors, where the technology and information has changed but the basic responsibilities are the same: teaching and treating sick people.

This makes me much happier because now the top group isn't a group of real people that fans are honestly being really creepy about.
Please don't write pornographic fan fiction about real people without their explicit go ahead. While it's in a grey area, I feel like it should be treated like Deepfake pornography and it's not because it's only in text. Anything sexual should consider consent from all parties involved.
I had a friend in high school who wrote fan fiction about her friends (we were all the weird autistic/adhd kids in an arts school) and some of it got a bit spicy, but she always asked before she even started planning story. I feel like it should be same for celebrities.
"if mushrooms are the superior lifeform that really calls the shots on this earth, why haven't they destroyed us yet?" listen to yourself. have we as humans gotten rid of every mountain on the planet just because we are smarter than big rocks? no!! because they don't pose a threat to us. sure some people die rock climbing or skiing and that's tragic but mountains aren't dangerous to us as a global society. do you see where i am going with this. it's your misplaced hubris that makes you think that humankind is worth destroying to a mushroom. we are a part of the mundane landscape on the surface. we pose no threat to the mycelian era. humble yourself
Can we talk about how bad the first two seasons of Star Trek Picard are? The third season was great but that's because the primary writer behind it also wrote some of the best episodes of Deep Space 9, which is my personal favourite Star Trek series (Sisko will always be the best Captian IMO).
Ah yes, let's make the Tal Shiar, a group of elite Romulan officers who deal with some of their most extreme cases, actually just have a secret knowledge about AI overthrowing the Alpha Quadrant that's never been explored before this series because they needed a reason for the Romulans to turn against the empire again.
The best part of the second season was seeing a younger Guinan working with Picard and having Woopie Goldberg reprise her role as an older Guinan. Q was horribly written in the second season and the entire plot with Alison Pill's character becoming a kindly Borg queen was really poorly implemented.
Season 3 fixed pretty much everything about it. Brought in stuff from DS9 that could be expanded on and had amazing performances from most of the returning actors and actresses as well as Amanda Plumbers brilliant portrayal of a rogue changeling who was driven insane by the experimentation she underwent at the hands of Starfleet. It's truly too bad she wasn't the villain for the entire season.
Also, Discovery's mushroom drive system is just straight up dumb. Almost as dumb as the crew of the Voyager refusing to turn into lizards for a short while to get home despite the affliction being curable.
Because I was yet again thinking about the Scott Pilgrim film adaptation
I wrote a while back about various characters not getting enough screen time and I still think that holds true. I believe it was when Scott Pilgrim Takes Off came out (which is a great sequel to the graphic novel btw).
But one of the things that still bothers me is how great some of the casting was. I mean, outside of the fact that they had the chance to cast Jessie Eisenberg and Michael Cera parallel each other as characters who are supposed to look similar at a point when they were often mistaken for each other and didn't take it.
Brie Larson is great casting for Envy Adams. However, Envy lacked much of a character in the movie while being somebody who gave up everything to chase a career in music in the graphic novels who has to reconcile with the people she's left behind as a sort of preface for Scott having to do the same thing with Kim and (to a lesser extent) Lisa in the coming arcs.
Aubrey Plaza is perfect as Julie Powers. Too bad they never touch on Julie's habit of surrounding herself with acquaintances and only having relationships with people she can get something out of.
Ellen Wong was an amazing Knives Chau. Too bad her character arc is never done and she's obsessed with Scott until the end of the movie while she drops him after I believe the third volume of the source material and starts her process of healing and understanding just how unhealthy her relationship with Scott was, even calling him out on it. The movie even had an alternate ending where Scott and Knives end up together, which goes completely against the point of their relationship and makes it seem almost healthy (which it very much was not).
Keiran Culkin was Wallace. However, there's no touch love arc between him and Scott in the movie that forces Scott to grow up a bit.
You get my point, right? Brian Lee O'Malley is brilliant at writing these heavily flawed, yet insanely likable characters. However, trying to fit everything into an hour-and-a-half is pretty much impossible. I'm very happy Edgar Wright got a chance to make a sequel to the graphic novels in Takes Off, which I think continues the story perfectly and gives Ramona more of an active role. I also think the movie is good for a number of reasons from the casting to the soundtrack to the visuals, but it's Edgar Wright film, it was always going to be a well-made movie. I'd just love to see a Limited Series with hour-long episodes adapting each volume of the original graphic novel.

Does anybody know if they ever finished that true localization of Fire Emblem Fates so I can play it with actually good writing?
Like, it's great from a gameplay standpoint and I'm fine with the removal of the touching mechanic but a lot of characters were butchered in the official English version.
i was playing fucking f.e.a.r. and thinking "wow this runs so well with all the shit it has going on" and thinking how insane it was that i've seen so many modern games that look worse but also run worse and have way bigger file sizes. like it's very possible to make your game look like old garbage and also still run as well as f.e.a.r. does if they actually try hard enough
F.E.A.R.'s A.I. is also insanely complex to the point that it's yet to be matched to this date. On paper, F.E.A.R. shouldn't run as well as it does, the devs were just that good at optimizing.
