What I don't understand is why MelJay was portrayed as a very communicative and supportive relationship, only for it to be rewritten in the eleventh hour.
When Jayce leaves their bed to go to Viktor in the hospital, he returns to her and immediately opens up to her about it all while laying his head in her lap, and instead of her accusing him of lying or a cliche scene of a quarrel born of misunderstanding, she softens and opens up to him in return. I was nervous watching that scene originally because of how often it's portrayed in media as a moment where a relationship weakens because of mistrust from the other person, but quite the opposite happensβthey actually become closer. And it's here where we get one of the best lines from the entire series: βWe can't change what fate has in store for us, but we don't have to face it alone.β
So what happened to facing their challenges together? What happened to βNothing feels impossible when I'm with youβ? Why is it when Mel returns from imprisonment that Jayce is throwing accusations at her? She was the one who promised to protect their hextech dream from corruption. I understand Jayce just returned from arcane hell and he would seek answers about Mel's magic, but her magic has nothing to do with the hopeless future he saw, and he must know this? If she saved the council it would've prevented nothing because Viktor was still dying regardless and tensions were already escalating between the two cities.
Why was the reunion between Mel and Jayce portrayed with such misunderstanding and miscommunication when those two things were the heart of what allowed them to grow closer to each other?
