i'm gonna be honest i don't get why they say everypony instead of everybody in mlp. it's not like the word everybody is human-specific. the ponies have bodies. the word everypony, however, is pony-specific in a world where ponies are not the only people in their society, which means it would be more accurate and inclusive to use everybody instead of everypony. it all makes no sense to me
maybe they all hate spike..?
So, first of all, ponies, like real irl horses, are skittish at the best of times. They are extremely paranoid to a fault, and prone to panic. Furthermore, their entire modern culture is built on the bones of a racial heirarchy that was only dismantled because they would literally freeze to death if they didn't stop being racist towards each other. And finally, not long after they settled their current territory, an Eldritch god showed up and turned everything and everyone into his playthings.
Pony culture is designed around generational trauma stretching back a thousand years, and their only monarch is an immortal sun goddess who protects them from external threats. Some ponies are genuinely terrified of anything new to the point that they literally hid behind locked doors whenever an African immigrant came into town to go grocery shopping. Some ponies justify their fears with a superiority complex, resulting in the man in charge of school certifications denying one to the goddess of friendship on the basis that she was opening the school to non-pony students, and he insisted that he could not condone giving away their magical secrets of harmony to outsiders.
I am not exaggerating here. These are all actual events in the show. And on top of that, Equestria is literally stolen land with dozens of different non-pony native inhabitants, including buffalo and diamond dogs. So you have a culture that views harmony as a threat you have to put up with, built on stolen land, ruled by a deity who by all rights literally is responsible for moving the sun, and which still has intense degrees of racial segregation enforced by wealth and geography and instead of laws (pegasi live on clouds, only they and other flying races can even do that, and the spell to let other races walk on clouds is obscure). It's a miracle that Twilight Sparkle was too autistic to learn to be racist.
