a long ass intro

auburn hair. porcelain skin. sunkissed with freckles. ruby was born with those blessed features. it wasn't the first time the vandenburg's were graced with children. two years before ruby came into the world, sapphire vandenburg was born. two redheads that followed their mother’s hair color, that roamed the streets of albany, new york throughout the years and children louise and stewart vandenburg weren't willing to take care of, but due to both stewart's and louise's religion, they both strongly believed that keeping them for show was better than abortion. and so louise’s work as a fashion designer, family celebrations, dinners and public appearances were put on hold when she started to show, a cover up spread around in magazines that she was secretly working on something huge instead of revealing her pregnancy.

louise and stewart weren’t fan of parenting and completely neglected the two, left them up for nannies to take care of them. ruby grew up in a big house, though the building never felt like home. the redhead learned from a young age that she wasn't the favorite at home. not by the two people that were supposed to be her caretakers at least. but her older sister, oh her sister loved her to death. sapphire grew to be her hero. only two years apart and only able to rely on each other, they became close. ever since ruby was able to walk, it was sapphire she always went to, in photos the two were inseparable. the youngest always reaching out to the older redhead's hand, even at the age of 12, in times of ache, in times of need of comfort, in times where they needed to be seen, they were there for each other. until one day, ruby no longer could reach for her sister’s hand.

one calm night for once at home when both stewart and louise were home from business trips, sapphire had spilled her biggest secret to the two; she felt best describing herself as queer. this resulted in her sister thrown out of the house. with no money, no support or roof over her head, she had watched her sister walk off from the porch, crying her heart out herself. there had been nothing she could've done, ever since that day, she hadn't been the same. she decided to hide her own sexuality and become the perfect daughter her parents were desperately longing for.

focusing on school, getting the perfect grades, she tried not to let her home situation get to her. over time, teachers noticed her random angry outbursts as well as the p.e. teacher watched her effort in gym class. soon became clear to the redhead she wanted to get into something gym-related after she graduated. she wanted to help other people, despite the fact she didn't have many friends at school and her parents weren't honest or lovable people. she wanted to be different from them. and that inspired her to become a personal trainer, as soon she received her graduation papers at the age of 18.

as she promised to herself, within a year she had received her personal trainer certification with the supporting money of her parents to pay for her program. she worked her ass off to get in shape, with the help of her own personal trainer.

over the years, she expanded her client range by promoting herself online, so soon she had people requesting her as a personal trainer in the u.k. as well. traveling to europe made her happier, it got her to take a break from being in new york city all the time. 

london was the perfect escape for the redhead to escape from her parents’ grip. she fell in love with a client, someone that no one knew about and she could turn to whenever. a relationship that had its flaws but was something ruby could find a future in. until one day her girlfriend, turned ex-girlfriend on the spot, threw her out of her house unexpectedly and broke up with her. this caused her to seek shelter at their favorite restaurant, when her plane home got cancelled due to bad weather circumstances and a home she did not have in london other than her exes'.

entering the london lick heartbroken, she never would've thought the owner of the restaurant would ever take her in. give her the comfort and healing she needed. the next day, when she was supposed to go back home and live her old life again - she found herself not able to. she stayed with the chef, let her heal her broken heart and take care of her. simone luther had become her saving grace, who saw the beauty in her when the personal trainer felt the ugliest both inside and out. she opened up to her, cried in her arms at night until the demons that haunted her heart and mind were chased away by simone's soothing touch and words. the personal trainer forgot about work, or even travelling back home in the first place. until she received the terrifying mention to leave the country and go back to new york, as she didn't possess a visa. the goodbye had been cruelly painful the day simone had brought her off to the airport, but she promised to keep in touch every single day.

and keep in contact she did. despite their time difference and busy schedules, they managed to facetime at least once a week. and call whenever they could. a year later, ruby had gained the opportunity to attend the lgbt pride in london and there she ran back into simone again and with their emotional past they had created, feelings came into play. ruby's heart had grown attached to simone now, just as much as simone's had grown to hers. the day before valentines day they made it official. the two had become a couple that grossed everyone dear to them out.

ruby moved in with simone, got a work visa and honestly lived her happy life, there’s been some angst stuff i’m not gonna dive into (medusa:  yeah so she once got held up at a bank w/ some other peeps. robbery funsies. now she doesn't really like guns bc of it. rip.), simone proposed to her, they have yet to get married but they’re exploring the world first and diving deeper into emotions. that’s all !
