Here, it's more a text that doesn't exist, like when lovecraft or derleth references the Book of Dyzan or the Necronomicon. Or the Navidson Record. Essentially, media works mentioned in a book or other format that don't exist in real life. Paratexts like this end up in a lot of my work just because it's set up around a research institute that publishes.
