Who is Ricarda Boatswain?

She’s the housewarden of Voyajetty, founded on the Seafaring Prince’s vow of exploration.

She’s 5’ 0”, 17 years old, and her birthday is April 3rd.

She belongs to the Jazz Band Club, and her best subject is PE.

Her signature spell is Wild Waters; she can use her flute to make water move at her command. She can perform dances, execute attacks, or just goof around.

Her mother is the long-time mayor of Ultramarine City, and her father is a bit of a trophy husband. She’s the oldest of 5 children; she has 2 sisters, a brother, and a nonbinary sibling.

She was homeschooled by a private tutor with a lax schedule that allowed her to explore the outdoors, and to sail Ultramarine City’s waters when she got old enough. Her mom and dad “encouraged” her to apply to Regal Shield so she could experience a traditional education with kids her age. Since she’s used to laissez-faire parenting and tutoring, she finds her new schooling stifling, and she has a habit of disappearing during class to wander around outside, which gets her in a lot of trouble.

Is there more to learn from the world than what’s written in a textbook or taught in a classroom?

Extra Odds and Ends

She’s the Jazz Band’s flutist, and it’s the only instrument she knows how to play. She’s tried other instruments, but the flute is the one that her signature spell works on, so why mess with a good thing?

One of the comforts she misses most from home is her family’s Old English Sheepdog, Andy. He’s the goodest boy anybody could ask for, and she begs her parents for pictures of him every day.

She has a bit of a crush on Bertie, but she doesn’t plan on acting on it; even if Bertie wasn’t happily spoken for already, Ricarda knows it wouldn’t be practical. However, her feelings do drive her to take Bertie’s side more often than not, even when Bertie is objectively in the wrong.

Since the merfolk land bootcamp is in Ultramarine City, Ricarda knew a higher-than-average number of Coral Sea residents growing up. Recently, she really connected with a merfolk boy about her age, but now he’s attending RSA and they forgot to exchange contact information, so she’ll probably never see him again.

She’s adept at most sports and athletic disciplines, but the javelin throw is her strength. She credits this to years of practice with harpoons back home.

What’s up with the “Pen Pal?”

After the failure of the pilot Pen Pal program intended to foster camaraderie between Sage’s Island’s two magical schools (most of the letters NRC wrote to RSA should never be read by human eyes, and some of them were literally cursed), Royal Sword decided to pass Night Raven off on-- sorry, introduce Night Raven to its Land of Heroes sister school, Regal Shield Academy, instead. Results have been surprisingly positive, but then again, the bar was so low that it could’ve been a tripping hazard in Ancient City.
