Their are two substories here : the story of kai and the story of riven , who both live in the same area but have vastly different paths
With a love of earth and homeworld in his heart , great friendships and the utmost care, strudel grows up and polishes his reputation, and ends up taking his moms spot when hes ready , leading to the new era commonly known as the "gem boom."
He found more value in keeping the earth as is, Gaining higher influence and learning more about them through more hybrids . He ended up unifying earth and homeworld- he took a lot a homeworld ideas and tech to earth with success but also took a lot of earth culture to homeworld : freeing gems to do whatever theyd like (some, especially pearls , still have strong loyalties to their jobs still and/or worked hard enough to retain their standing, however strudel respects that and lets them be them ) and making a more democratic system, abolishing ranks and very strict rules , in hopes of appealing to humans and looking like a alien utopia, so some would willingly go there . This was also apart of their plan to get gems and humans to be aboard to join the new era - mainly a campeign for gems to settle down with humans and make the first generation of hybrids , and when things got a but too busy with the population surge , a secret rank was revealed to the public to help and give new purpose - Mini diamonds, who would run towns and small gem groups , who were nobles and served the diamonds but could now be revealed as they are and be free to do what they want , to truely even out the scene and make them seem on equal footing with the other ranks..
The diamond hybrids still would end up dying from producing the next generation anyway- they were also too powerful to have on earth , and with a newer easier to produce gem light grey diamond later produced thatll prevent them from sacrificing themselves, a type of cubic zicronia splashed in with platinum (dubbed ring gems) and adding this formula to later gems , a successful campeign + new advancements in tech to keep old era gems living , and humans starting to gain gem linage and evolve and become compatible themselves , they decided to cap the amount of mini diamonds made while monitoring the amount currently existing.
[Kai is one of the original mini diamond hybrids . Their mother was a trusted and loyal noble who kept upkeep of gem production and technology and was granted many gems overtime , and later gave them refuge once the gem boom occurred if they decided to stay. She came to earth and unexpectedly found herself drawn to a human. Knowing of the outcome and how she may not live longer, she left her postition and urged her gems to go , and trusted her main pearl, mabe to take care and raise her son to be the best they could be. Even As some of the gems she kept went their own way and even took similar paths , some found their way back to kai somehow.. strudels kais mentor and ally , but is quite isloated otherwise due to his lineage]
[Riven and his brother Kaodo is a rarity , both old era gem hybrids in a world where in-betweens are starting to occur as the generations of gems are starting to grow. Riven has his two partners , vonnica who is a 25% gem [i forgot the my gem system i made up so tba on that] and tetsuya, a second generation gem hybrid. The two brothers live in a hybrid friendly area, and just live their lives peacefully]
