While he was indeed headed for the stairs, the elite knight seemed to have no intention of slowing down for something as inane as steps.
In one great leap, he used the first step to set off and launch past the obstacle, tilting harshly forward in the process - so he could roll back up onto his feet on impact and continue stride towards the tunnel ahead.
It would seem his peculiar opponent was more than willing to take a few ‘shortcuts’ himself.
Good. It made for a far more interesting race.
There was a familiar tingling in his stomach - one he’d thought would have long choked to death behind the bars of the asylum. But no. It was still here. Flaring up with renewed warmth and energy.
The flame of competition.
He leapt onto the brick railing to their right, stepping up onto the higher platforms and jumping across the corner to the stairs on the other side in an attempt to save speed.
It’d been a good while since he’d felt like this, and he was intent on winning.
Solaire landed with a roll, and when he rose to his feet to continue his sprint, he found himself still behind. He had shortened the gap between them, but it seemed his competition had managed a mighty leap of his own.
This was but a mere friendly competition, but that did not mean he didn’t have to put forth effort. No, this was important. It was his duty to give this man the run of his life! So he thought as he watched this elite knight jump and leap like a spry child.
“If he can do it, so shall I!” he thought, as he followed behind Gervais, bound for bound. He knew he would have to overtake him soon, however. Once they entered the sewer, it would be too narrow to pass and the shrine’s bonfire would be nearly a straight shot. There would be but a small opportunity to overtake the elite knight after that, at best.
His chances were looking limited indeed, but Solaire was never one to lose hope and certainly not to forfeit. He would certainly seize the moment.

And that’s how Siegward was made.
(So: Siegward leaves behind sunlight related items everywhere he goes. He refers to the sun all the time in dialogue. And you can trade in the Siegbräu for the Armor of the Sun. If Siegward is not related to Solaire at all, then I’m going to sell all of my Sunlight Medals to Patches.)
(Siegward is definitely Sieglinde’s baby, though.)

He probably should have expected the grasp. After all, it was rather normal for inland knights to do such things as a friendly gesture. However, he was no inlander, and it showed quite clearly when he violently jolted upon contact. He could only thank the stars for his long lessons in discipline. Without them, he likely would have punched Solaire straight in the helmet.
“Don’t. Do that!” He practically spat through gritted teeth.
Honestly, what was it with inland knights and touching each other?!
Growling, he took position. There may not be much room, but he wasn’t about to let Solaire win. Not after that.
"Whatever, tubby.” He retorted. “Just remember we have to run, not roll.”
Perhaps a bit meaner than strictly necessary, but the grab put him in a mean mood.
He took a moment of the countdown to observe his opponents stance. How very sportsmanly. Too bad it wasn’t gonna help him; what chance did he have? He couldn’t count the number of times he and Wade had raced like this in their yours, and through much more challenging terrain at that.
Turning his attention back to the road ahead, he leaned back in his position, with fire in his eyes and impatience in his stomach, preparing to launch himself into the fray. At the moment the countdown finished, he shot off like a cannon ball, intent on taking the lead.
Anger was a bit more welcome of a state than the Gervais was previously, but the reaction was unexpected all the same. But, who had time for such talk when there was a race on the line?
Solaire was surprised at the speed of this fellow knight. He had intended to give a headstart, but Gervais had gained quite a lead in that short time. Until then, Solaire had been certain his lighter equipment would have given him the advantage, but this fellow had proven well-worthy of his elite status. Solaire wondered if all upper crust were so capable.
Alas, the first hurdle was already upon them: A flight of stairs. Solaire, expecting Gervais to head down the stairs as conventional, cut his turn early and ran toward the vantage point beside it. Perhaps with a mighty leap from there, he may be able to overtake his opponent.
Celebrating the latest installation-Dark Souls 3!!! I wanted to get it done earlier but was kinda hooked on the game. You understand right! You’re probably wondering what the pic means. Well before this I had a blast playing Bloodborne xD and really hope they put out a sequel or something ASAP. I’m really feeling Miyazaki’s artistic style ever since Demon Souls came out. Praise the Sun!!!
