He knew that Diego worried about him. If he didnât, there was no way that heâd drop everything whenever he got a phone call from the hospital or the police or wherever else heâd ended up and go see him, bail him out, scold him - whatever it was that he ended up doing that time. Really, Klaus loved him for it, for how he seemed to be the only one of his siblings - except for Ben, though he supposed Ben didnât have too much of a choice in that - that hadnât given up on him yet.
Every time he dropped by, though⌠Diego always scolded him, he always gave him the same speech, and while that was annoying, he could take it. What really got to him, though, was that he was never sure how welcome he was, he always felt like he was getting in the way. He never said anything, he played it off as if he didnât mind it, he playfully pretended to be offended at the idea that he might have other things to do, but in the end, it did bug him. So he stayed away for the most part, only dropping by when he really needed it.
He was uncharacteristically quiet for a moment, and when he spoke, his tone was far less lighthearted than itâd been before. âI know. But heâs not a big fan of uninvited house guests.â He shrugged slightly. When he continued after a brief pause, his tone was once again light and playful. âBesides, Iâve been busy, you know? Things to do, places to be!â
"Diego doesnât ever have invited guests,â She pointed out, as she finished off the last of the block of mozzarella. Her hair flipped out of her face as she looked over at Klaus as he cut up the toppings. âBut yâknow, youâre always welcome here, right? Drunk, stoned, hungover, half sober, you can come hang out for as long or short as you want.â
I worry about you too, she wanted to say, but everytime she opened her mouth she couldnât manage to say it. Her and Klaus werenât exactly close, she saw him maybe two or three times in the last few years. But she saw Diego every day and she knew how much his brother disappearing for months at a time affected him. Sure his lectures were annoying but, his heart was in the right place.
âI have one rule though,â Jenna added. âIf you overdose in my living room, Iâm calling an ambulance and sending you to rehab, okay? And if you maybe wanna... I dunno call your brother instead just to let him know youâre okay the phoneâs on the table beside the couch.âÂ
