Golden Knight of Lux Aurea

When Janai gets angry, but not angry enough to enter ‘heat-being mode’ (yes, I’m calling it that until we get a proper name) her skin will occasionally get rougher and hotter to the touch anyway.

The marks on her face are always slightly warmer than the rest of her skin. 

Janai had never been one to stay still, no matter how much it worried the people in her charge. Xadia might be on an alert of sorts and her human prisoner had to be watched, yes, but Janai knew she had capable underlings. And if her soldiers were out there patrolling, she wouldn’t stay in Lux Aurea to play politics. That was her sister’s domain.

It hadn’t taken Janai long to ride away from the capital and to one of the closest deserted areas, where she could train and think and keep an eye for strangers in an area that wasn’t patrolled as often as she’d like it to be. She knew some of her lieutenants would lose their minds if they learned she’d gone alone, but she didn’t need their worries. Not right then and there.

Janai had already begun walking towards her mount once again, deciding to return to Lux Aurea at last, when her eyes caught sight of a stranger. Her hand immediately moved to the hilt of her sword, only to move away when the figure became clearer. An elf, and thus perhaps not a danger, despite being quite far from the lands of the Moonshadow Elves.

Janai laughed, genuinely amused by a previous remark, then temporarily backed away from the main conversation. She trusted her lieutenants and especially the scholar traveling with them to keep the conversation alive without many interventions from Janai herself, even after just some days on the road. 

They were on their way to the border with the human kingdoms to fortify one of the outposts, but despite time being of the essence Janai had led her small company to the lands of the Moonshadow Elves. It would be some time until they could be part society again, after all, and even if Janai herself held some mixed feelings about their famed assassins, preferring as she did to meet her enemies in a clear battlefield, they were all in the same side and she knew better than to pretend everything could be solved by applying brute force. 

“I've heard some of you will travel to the human Kingdoms.” Janai addressed Runaan, as a way of opening conversation. “It’s always good to know one isn’t alone so far from home, however brief the stay of your people will be.”
