I found a painting of this chick* and knew I wanted to make a collage with her. I started playing around, cropping and rotating, and ultimately created three completely different works, all with one common element: this girl. 🚶‍♀️

I started with something simple, which I really like, a mushroom mermaid. Just to warm up. The whole thing has an aura of sultry summer for me, with grasses being the only thing that offers a bit of respite. 🍄‍🟫🌾☀️

This print portrays the artist's wife, Margaret Cecelia Keenan, an artist and model who Freer depicted extensively throughout his career. A similar painting, also called Lady In Black, gained Freer a reputation when it was exhibited in 1887.
