AVAILABLE I can tell you one thing for certain, if this fit my wrist, it'd be forever in my personal collection. 30s/40s (my closest guestimation is about 1941), 14k gold plated, with that heart melting dedication: "Charlotte, from Ma & Pa" 😭 I LOVE it. Oh, and it's running and keeping accurate time, so yeah, it's pretty much perfection in every way. I popped it open to determine more info about it and couldn't match it to an exact model but did see that the movement is spectacualrly clean and well kept. Like, inside this watch is dazzlingly bright it's so clean. That said, I do recommend a service for all watches to keep them in tip top order as they've likely been sitting for decades and need fresh oil. It's also a proper way to honor the care the original owners had for these heirloom pieces. Uhg, I love this one, but it's time for someone else to add their history to it. Band measures 6" and I would say be a bit under that measurement. Case shows some tarnish that could be properly and gently cleaned / buffed. Truly a gorgeous ww2-ish era watch. I picked this up many moons ago and immediately my instincts told me what it was but since then it's been a bit of a mystery so I held onto it until I could say with more certainty what I thought it was. My best researched guess is that this is a jacket from the late teens into the twenties (maybe pushing the 30s?), definitely handmade by a dedicated seamstress, and that that fabric is unlike any I've seen used in a jacket from this era. I mean - that print!! So it's definitely a handmade piece as the internal handiwork isn't something you'd see coming out of a professional shop, and I ruled out it being a costume piece as the inside seams are entirely, meticulously hand finished. I've never heard of a single costumer who would hand stitch every single seam in a costume piece. (Correct me if I'm wrong) The collar and edging on the pockets (those outrageously incredible scalloped pockets!!) is a lush silk charmeuse, as is the detailed piping work throughout. It's a true marvel of a piece of fashion history, highly crafted and thought out. The person that made this, in my guess, really wanted to make themself something spectacular - and they did. I'm going to ramble on about this one so brace yourself. There isn't a single detail on this watch that hasn't been considered and if you swipe through these photos you'll see what I mean. The enamel on the front of the case is some of the most intricate I've ever come across and it's, as near as I can see, Flawless. So often these enamel watches get so beat up and chipped and scratched but this watch is clean inside and out and has been so lovingly taken care of that it's actually kind of shocking considering others that I come across that look like they've been lit on fire. The band, the band! Not only is a detail level high but it's also very finely made. The dial and the movement of the watch itself? Well, as I said, swipe over and you'll see that the dial holds a secret. Behind that case of beautiful enamel the watch dial has been finished to have a beautiful striped face. This watch is beautiful through and through and it is currently running and keeping great time as I kept track of it all day yesterday. The brand name is Lady May which I researched and wasn't able to come across anything but a few other incredibly well made watches. I really wish that I had the history on this company because it looks like they were around in the early part of the last century and made highly crafted pieces. AVAILABLE | I am going to regret this. Pulling the bandaid off quick with one of my favorite watches I previewed - I'm calling this one the "firefly" watch and here's why: in the center of the watch face you'll notice that beautifully green glowy rectangle. That's guilloche enamel, but enamelling like I've not seen on any other watch. Normally with guilloche - the way I've ever seen it - the turning beneath the enamel (the way the metal is worked to produce the pattern in the enamel) is waved. Here. If you look closely (closer that my camer can pick up the details) it looks like two fireflies on top & bottom and willow branches trailing down each side - or at least that's what my eye sees when I look at it. This is an Abra watch and of all the watches I collect these are always the most artistically considered and beautifully designed (I'll share one of my prized ones in my personal collection in my stories). Nfs, just an appreciation post. I've been quiet lately as I've had a bananas few days and feel like I'm moving through water so I'm slow to do anything right now, but I do have a little collection of deco watches I'll be offering up in the next few days. Now for this piece - a little holy grail in my personal collection. I have a deep, deep love of Art Nouveau and the way it celebrates sinuous lines (the whiplash curve), nature, and the female form. From all my research I gather this to be circa 1900-ish (there is a hallmark inside that could tell me more but I can't seem to dig up anything on it, could possibly maybe be a later revival but I don't think so?), men's brass ring (that was clearly a favorite as the ladies are quite worn down). Even in its super loved and worn condition it's still a perfect treasure to me from a time when nature and woman were muses to be celebrated in art, decor, & jewelry. I'll never argue with that. . Fun fact: apparently - according to one source - the use of women in Art Nouveau jewelry was in part due to the evolving role of women in society including the Suffrage Movement. Appropriate, no? As promised, the next collection of dream watches. It's taken me weeks to dig these all up and I'm still in the process of timing / researching / inspecting all these so this is a preview only (please don't DM me with questions at this time - but you may comment for a tag! - my hand is still unusable-ish and so the reason it's taken me so long to even post these is I needed help even getting them on my wrist & photographed, I can't open these on my own so finding time when that sweet husband of mine can help me is what's determining the roll out of info on these). I can tease you with facts like that gorgeous darling in the third photo is a 1919 Elgin Royal with some secret initials inscribed (a mystery I wish I knew the answer to!!) & I've added in some photos of other gals wearing similar watches from this time period if you swipe through. That last one in the seafoam green velvet case? A little mystery I'm working on cracking but dates between 1936-41. All the others are between the late teen - early 30s in age with one inscribed two months before the stock market crashed in '29. I want to tell you all a story. About the energy of water pulsing through canals and the whispers and laughter echoing between ancient walls by masked revelers. About quiet spiders carefully drawing their webs and the rain hugging those threads, causing them to glisten. About languid summer days with heat that you feel your skin move through, that the wings of bees beat against and you hear the hum, and the heavy scent of flowers calling to their little pollinator friends. Of the moon at night and how it softly glows and we worship that moon by echoing its image in our jewelry. I want to tell you this story and the best way I know how is visually. It's been a long road from researching, hand drawing, designing, color correcting, and then patiently waiting for two months for these fabrics, for their stories, to arrive so I could ensure they're ready for you. All my collections mean so much to me, but this one specifically is a conjuring of many things that echo through me - my time spent living in Venice after studying art in Greece, antique books, my love of the moon, nature, flowers. The color story alone that these tell is deeply personal to my love of dusk and twilight. This is the second Archie Brown & Son label I've picked up recently and I really love the quality of their pieces. Add to the those crazy sweet embroidered seagulls (that remind me of 50s brass wall art) and I was a goner for this midcentury gem. Summer may just be starting, but some of my favorite beach days are early September, getting out of the water from a little surf and throwing on a sweater. This one will be coming to my shop though so stick around!
