Inspector Saehara & Saehara Takeshi + "Child asking Parent to cook them their favorite food"?

And honestly, the kids could not have asked for a better father.

“Hey Dad?” Maki looked over from the back seat of the car. “I’m 99% sure what you did is illegal.” “Totally.” Tou nodded with a grin. “Oh? And who exactly are you going to tell?” Satoshi asked, looking into the mirror to see Tou’s mischievous expression and Maki’s stoic one. “I would say that we would tell the cops about you but I think telling Mom is much more effective~” Tou smiled, looking from his father to Maki. “Isn’t that right, Maki?” “We accept bribes in case you’re wondering.” Maki added in. “...Alright what is it that you two want?” Today was definitely not his day.

“Good…Pregnancy can be quite a scare at times.” Daiki explained to him. For once, he was glad that his son would be born in a matter of time.

“And you believed it?” Despite the smile, there was something lying underneath those words. “You should know better than the two of us to not take Niwa Daisuke’s words at face value, Satoshi.” Of course, considering his family’s history with the other…The two should be at odds. Except… “You’re wrong.” Satoshi spoke, arguing with him for once. “He has never done anything to hurt me.” Not that he could even recall. “Oh Satoshi, that Niwa really has led you astray, hasn’t he?” It doesn’t seem as though his adopted father was willing to take his word for it. “Will he really be there for you when you need him the most? Like how I’ve been?” Though who’s to say that would come true.

“I’m your father, I know you better than anyone.” Kei explained, looking at Satoshi with his usual smile. Yet…The man before him was only his adopted father. Someone who looked after the teen after the death of Hikari Rio. “Maybe even more than that ‘classmate’ of yours.” He pointed out. The mention of said classmate made Satoshi freeze in place. Who knew just what the man’s plans for Daisuke was. He’d rather not think about it. “You don’t.” Satoshi spoke, trying to keep his voice even. “You know nothing about me.” Or so it seemed.

“I’m 99% sure what you did is illegal.” Daisuke stared right at his father. As though the other didn’t help him by posing as a museum curator. Though his skills weren’t exactly on par as his mother or grandfather’s. “I know…But I wanted to help you out at least a little.” Kosuke explained. Sure, he almost got caught but…At least the guards didn’t completely figure it out. “I guess it’s the thought that counts, thanks Dad.” Daisuke gave him a small smile. “You know, you’re free to ask me for help at times.” The man commented, scratching the back of his head. After all, he’d do anything to help his son out a little.

Emiko never knew that growing up to be an adult could be just as emotional.

And he couldn’t be any more proud of him.

To be honest, the man never thought he would partake in such an activity. Not to mention how he usually is, Kosuke would be shy. Especially when it came to certain matters. “You’re doing a good job, honey.” Emiko smiled, placing a glass of water in front him. “It looks like today’s stream went well.” He could now relax now that the camera was no longer in view. “...It did.” Kosuke nodded. “You know, I’m worried that you might get too popular one day and leave me behind.” She joked. “I wouldn’t do that, Emiko-san.” After all, if it wasn’t for her support…Then he wouldn’t have gotten this far.

Compared to most children his age, his ‘son’ wasn’t necessarily cheerful or full of energy. In fact, the boy preferred to keep to himself, rather than hanging out with his peers. Nor was he the type to cause a ruckus or a mess. Even now, the boy was still like that. Satoshi seemed to have found the typical Hikari tools of the trade much like those before him. Before the child even noticed, his small legs were no longer touching the ground.  Satoshi blinked, not exactly expecting the head kisses. “Isn’t this son of mine, the cutest~” His adopted father spoke, sounding quite cheerful. Today was quite the day for Satoshi.

Yet that didn’t make him any less happier.

It was going to be quite a night.

“You did WHAT?” Kosuke stared right at his son, in complete shock. “...Dad, can you not make me say it again?” His son looked away, completely flustered. “I-It’s just…” The man started to say, at a loss for words. “...I just never thought that you and your girlfriend would-” It felt like it was yesterday that Daisuke was just a baby. Now his own kid was going to have his own kid. That’s not to say that he wasn’t happy for him. “Listen Daisuke…Raising a child is a lot.” Kosuke began to explain. “When Emiko-san was pregnant, I was there for her. If there was anything Daisuke didn’t expect, it was getting a lecture from his father on such a topic.

“Would you mind staying on the phone with me, please Niwa-san?” Kei spoke into the phone. Though his voice sounded mostly cheerful, there seemed to be something lying underneath. Kosuke wasn’t sure why but it wasn’t as if the bespectacled man would tell him. For once, there was a sense of vulnerability in Hiwatari’s tone. Completely unlike how the man usually was. He’s glad that the man opened up even if it wasn’t to tell him everything. “Of course, I can.” Kosuke reassured him. “Thank you for indulging my selfish request, Niwa-san.” “I wouldn’t call it selfish.” Before he knew it, many hours had passed.

“I just wanted to feel loved, I guess. If I had said that was the reason, what would you do?” Rio spoke, looking right at the artwork. Though she said that, it didn’t seem as though that was the case. “Oh?” Elm Root looked right back at her. “Though I doubt that’s your real reason.” “Nothing gets past you, does it?” The woman asked, not at disturbed by its words. Almost as though she had expected it. “To me, it seems that you’re more interested in that experiment of yours than the idea of being loved.” It pointed out. And perhaps, maybe it was right.
