Bulova radio, 1958
After building my 1911 “Ugly Betty” and hand fitting all the parts last year I figured I needed a challenge :P so this year… after yet another dead battery in my Fossil watch I decided to learn watch making or servicing so I could do it all myself. Great idea right? I must be insane.
Well so that started with “how hard can it be…” right? Yeah, plenty hard. But I have a steady hand so really if you have patience and the desire, totally doable. Now comes the part you dont realize till your feet are the only thing still poking out of the rabit hole… tools, there is a never ending list of tools. Mygawd the tools. Well… too late to turn back now!
Long story short, I started with cold war era Soviet Komandirskies, 2234, 2409, 2414a movements. I just finished one that a coworker had that would only run for a moment. Lots of replaced parts later its keeping time and I gave it back to him. This weekend I did a full service on another friend’s Lady Bulova cocktail watch. Impossibly small. It actually runs now! And there were no extra “where did that come from?” Screws lol. So here are a couple pics just for funzies.
