Honestly he isn’t sure what to feel. There were more deserving people in those exams that probably should have gotten this title- Shinki and Sarada, even his own team, Inojin and Chocho. Shikadai took a shaky breath as he stared at the vest given to him by both his father and Lord Seventh.

Shikamaru, he’s just like his father in every way.

Those voices rang out through the air and cut through the silence of his room. The whispers of people who didn’t really know him and assumed he was in every way, exactly like his father. Being promoted at such a young age, didn’t quite help that really. But then, something clicked.

No. He wasn’t just his father. He wasn’t a Shikamaru clone. He was Shikadai. The kid stood up from his bed, slipping on the best and making a handsign to symbol wind style, and then shadow manipulation. “Shikadai. Son of the leaf and sand.” He was his own person- and he was going to prove it with his new responsibility. Besides, Inojin and Chocho had to listen to him now. He got a cocky smile on his face imagining it- imagining having to lead Boruto and Sarada, Mitsuki and their friends.

This was gonna be fun.

On that note: Shikadai only gets away with using Gaara as a scare tactic for bullies because they likely don’t know as much about him- he also will use his mom if he has to.

That doesn’t show that he hates his uncle however- in fact, he loves Gaara a lot and looks up to him a great deal. Gaara is the wise, cool uncle who gives great hugs. Kankurou is the fun uncle that knows how to get into trouble without Mom finding out- but mostly only dad finding out.

Rockin’ the Suburbs || Modern Verse

An incredibly smart kid, going through middle school with his friends. Shikadai is in the chess club, as well as a small unpopular club made by him and his other friends. They get together and get into trouble and other shenanigans.

He loves listening to his music which he does often, to his father’s annoyance because it always happens to be on when there’s a lesson to be learned or he’s trying to ask about his son’s day.

Shikadai used to get teased by the other children in the Nara clan compound for being mixed. His eyes, his skin’s complexion, even the way he talks sometimes was off from the others.

The first time, he kept it to himself and got sad about it, and didn’t want to get his parents angry. The second and third time however, he took it into his own hands and told them off- even threatened that his Uncle would arrest them for being “mean”.

Of course, after that they left him alone entirely, but that was fine. He just left on his own- or with one or both his parents to see Boruto, Inojin, or Chocho.
