"You ever get that feeling where being alone sucks, but being around other people makes you want to rip your own skin off?"
"Um. Somewhat. You feeling okay?"
"What the hell happened to you?"
"Like I'd tell you anything."
"Today was exhausting and stupid, but at least there are waffles."
"It takes so little to keep you happy."
"I don't know why you bother with these people. You could literally blow up the sun."
"Why would I blow up the sun?"
"You don't have to, but you could. That's the point. Everyone should do what you say because if they don't, you could, you know, blow up the sun or something."
"Blowing up the sun seems like an overreaction."

"Don't forget to summon your familiar before you start walking home. I don't want you walking so far alone."
"She doesn't like it when I summon her for dumb things like that."
"I love talking with humans. You have the benefits of the wisdom provided by a short life, but your limited grasp on the fundamental nature of reality leaves you without a lot of basic key knowledge. It's a fascinating perspective."
"I can't tell if you're being condescending or not."
"You're such a goddamn liar."
"I never lied!"
"Half-truths are lies of omission. You haven't been honest with us since the second you joined us."

Person A: "You need to take a break. You're busier than me now. Me. You're going to die like this."

"Why do you care?"
"You're... kind of the best friend I've ever had."
"God. Is that true? Fuck. You need to meet more people."
Yall ever think about how shadowpeach is always fun to analyze when you get to their codependency and neglect aspects--
I love how imperfect they are even when they're supposedly at their happiest
Macaque's codependency I feel is easiest to see
Dude walks in the literal shadows of Wukong- he is always a stand behind and honestly I feel he's always had an envy/resentment of Wukong's strength and perceived greed for power even if he also adored and admired Wukong at the same time
Just that ugly feeling of loving someone so much because of how strong they are yet hating them because the higher they are on that pedestal the harder it is to keep them to yourself and know they'll always see you and the jealousy of being unable to reach those same heights yet this sense of loyalty to their very being so deep in your bones you can't bring yourself to do more than go along until you snap at their antics
And Wukong neglects/avoids conflict so much even in present day when he's aware of the trouble is can cause- the belief he is strongest also being his biggest weakness because only HE can handle all these issues- how sweet my friends want to help but they'll break under the pressure only I can do this alone so no need to stress them- pssh communication? Nah!! No need to bother them with things that'll make them stressed when I can handle it alone
Dude is so avoidant- mixed with someone so dependent like Mac feels like fights of Wukong not letting Mac know things or help which adds to his inferiority complex and they just have this horrible back and forth of their own insecurities and issues- self destructive and cruel
Yet they both also understand each other more without words at the same time bc of how alike they are in other aspects and how in tune to each other they work and it's so strong bond even centuries later, still angry with each other and hurt- a fucking glance and nod and they both know what the other is thinking and asking to do-
It's such a beautiful mess and GOD I love how complex you can get with that- seeing how they truly are both horrible and perfect with each other- bringing the best and worst of of each other and yet both seemingly unwilling to 100% face it and address what they broke
Also they both lowkey neglect their relationship in the sense neither address the issues they clearly had early on- from Macaque clearly being uneasy and disagreeing with Wukong's nature of adventuring and gaining power and of course the rebellion- but Wukong neglecting the chances he can to properly address and ask Macaque why these things bother him- like yeah I believe he loves Mac and truly meant in some level (even if no matter the outcome that wouldn't be possible) he wanted fhat future of lazing under the sun eating fruit all day with Macaque like he promised- Wukong is a protector very much- paranoid one at that with how he obsesses of power to protect so he can ensure NOTHING harms what he loves- he definitely loved Macaque- but he reminds me in a sense of Mr. Peanut Butter from Bojack Horseman- past him anyway- when it comes to acting like there isn't a big emotional issue needing to be addressed-
And Macaque neglects the relationship by being so compliant until it finally boils over and goes wrong- and he fuels the fire even- Wukong does to but I feel like Macaque didn't realize he blew up too under that mountain- given his reaction to seeing the fight from the sidelines- I imagine he only recalls how hurt he felt and how Wukong spoke to him so cruel when he wanted to provide a level of comfort in that moment
Like he didn't realize his temper was always short- that he said hurtful (tho true on a level) things to Wukong in retaliation and that he clearly has been running high on his idea of retaliation of Wukong being everything to him- yet in hating him it's not too different from loving him- he's still obsessing just in a new light and hes still ignoring what he could've changed- GUH I LOVE THESE OLD IDIOTS

The tie on Macaque's scarf was Wukong's goodbye gift :'')
Also Wukongโs back to us bcs he is looking forward to the rest of his life
Macaque is looking directly as a reminder
I wanted to do a write-up of the info I covered in the Moon Mist/In Orchids podcast for people who can't/didn't listen. Here are the basic points.
This post is VERY long, so I suggest setting aside some time to read it. Also, if you watched the podcast, you might want to look at this as well. I flesh out a few points here and talk about the two things I missed in this summary as well.
After Wukong is dragged to safety:
The shadow portal Macaque dragged Wukong through leads back to Wukong's bedroom in his hut. Macaque helps him to sit down beside his bed, his back against the far back wall.
Macaque is crouching in front of him. He looks equal parts pissed and concerned. He asks what Wukong was doing in the Realm of Death; Wukong can't respond because he's hyperventilating and having a panic attack. And he's still in tremendous pain.
Macaque realizes the questions can wait. He heals Wukong's wounds and notices that something is wrong with Wukong's magic. He helps Wukong through his panic attack and reassures him that he's fine and he's safe now that Macaque is with him. This helps calm Wukong down to the point where he can answer Macaque's questions.
Macaque is Very Mad, and makes that clear. He's upset that Wukong did this and risked his life, first off, and then that he didn't tell Macaque about the update on his appeal, AND that Wukong put himself in danger for nothing; the curse hasn't been removed and now Wukong's magic is being corrupted.
Wukong is surprised by this and asks what Macaque means. Macaque goes into a lengthy explanation as to why Wukong's magic isn't behaving normally. Basically, the poison is draining his immortality/invincibility by messing with the celestial magic that is lined in Wukong's body because of him being a celestial primate. The magic of immortality/invincibility was applied to that celestial magic, and so, now that the poison is attacking that, it's impacting his entire body and his ability to use magic. The celestial magic that has kept Wukong healthy and whole is slowly being corrupted over time, and so it's not able to heal Wukong like it normally could. It's not able to keep Wukong's unique body functioning properly because it's trying to fight the poison.
This means that all the unique things about Wukong's body (his high body temperature, his skull being made of copper, his heart being gold, his iron ribs, etc. All of that isn't being properly maintained, so Wukong's body is basically falling apart. The corruption will grow and grow and the celestial magic won't be able to stop it. If the poison corrupts all of his magic, then Wukong will die, because he's no longer immortal or invincible because of the blue orchids in the poison.
Wukong is very terrified and troubled by this. He desperately asks Macaque if anything can be done. Macaque thinks for a while and says that the only way to stop this is to try and outrun the speed of the poison. Wukong's magic would have to be uncorrupted at a faster pace than the poison is corrupting it, meaning that, eventually, Wukong's magic would be restored faster than the poison, and the poison would slowly be eradicated.
Macaque is the only one that can uncorrupt Wukong's magic since he knows it so well, but Macaque is also still cursed. It will take a long time for him to do this. Macaque estimates it'll take about 2 years until Wukong's back to normal.
Wukong, while disheartened by the length of time, is very happy that something can be done to fix his predicament. But he also knows that Macaque is angry with him and has no obligation to stay and help Wukong at this point. Macaque could leave Wukong to his fate, and he would be justified in doing so. He's wanted revenge against Wukong this whole time anyway.
Wukong sadly says all of that to Macaque, who doesn't react or respond initially. There's a long silence between them, but then...Macaque hears something outside of the hut and feels a familiar presence. Much like the Lady Bone Demon, it is the presence of death magic. The Ten Kings are here in the mortal realm. They call out for Wukong to come talk to them.
Though still terrified by what had just occurred, Wukong puts on a new set of clothes and intends to head out there. Macaque tries to talk him out of it, but Wukong says he needs to see this through. But Wukong is visibly scared and shaking, still, he channels his strength and pride and begins to head out. Before he reaches the door, Macaque grabs his left hand.
Wukong looks at Macaque in surprise and Macaque says something like "You told me once that you wouldn't fear death if I was by your side. If you're going to do this...then we should do it together."
Very touched by this, Wukong smiles and they exit the hut. Outside, there are only three kings (LMFAO) to speak with. Wukong notices it's some of the seven that were upset about the betrayal and the poison. One of the kings is King Chujiang, the king who presides over the Yellow River. This king is the one that told Macaque the truth about his all-sight. Seeing that he's there, Macaque is immediately hopeful that they won't pull anything.
The kings tell Wukong that the matter is being dealt with internally and that the three who planned all this will be punished. The kings then ask for Wukong not to mention the incident to the Jade Emperor.
Wukong, knowing he's got the advantage here because the Ten Kings are afraid of the wrath of the Jade Emperor, boldly asks if they will remove Macaque's curse to buy his silence. The Kings agree to that.
Wukong also asks if he can have a piece of the Scroll of Memory. He remembers that the JE mentioned that Azure and the rest were sealed in there, and he's got a plan for the scroll. The Ten Kings ask why Wukong is interested, and Wukong says that he's lived for a long time and would like to see his companions and master again. The Scroll of Memory is one of the few ways he can do that.
The Ten Kings, knowing they have a disadvantage, agree to this, not seeing the harm it can do. They give Wukong a piece of the scroll and ask again if Wukong will be silent.
Wukong agrees and then asks if there's anything they can do about the corruption. The kings admit that they cannot do anything, for corruption is unpredictable and irreversible. Wukong grows angry with them about this, but they point out that Macaque will have his cursed removed; maybe he can help Wukong with it.
Wukong lets it go and the three kings depart. After about 30 seconds, Macaque grunts and kneels on the ground, feeling something happening to his body. Gradually, the curse is removed from him, freeing him to practice advanced magic, to sleep, to dream, and be his complete self again.
Macaque's reaction to this is badass but also a little scary. Immediately, the sky around FFM grows dark and a shadow barrier forms around the mountain. Macaque stands to his full height, laughing maniacally with violet and black shadows swirling in his eyes. Wukong steps back, unsure of what Macaque's intentions are.
In Orchids would end something like this:
Macaque turns to face Wukong with a wide grin, just as concerning as it is menacing. Heโs enacting a plan that only he is privy to. And before Wukong can ask for details or tell Macaque to stop, he raises his right hand, and with a snap of his fingers, he snuffs out the light of the sun.
And that's all the info I covered! I think. This concludes this write up, sorry it was so lengthy!
Anyway, so,
I've been listening to Maroon 5 (an old fave of mine) and! this song came up and it's SUCH a liukong song??? I personally see it from Wukong's perspective (Never Gonna Leave This Bed - Maroon 5)
The vibe of "I am never going to give up on this relationship. I know it's imperfect, but I don't care" is SO Wukong to me. I think it ties into his character really well, and that's why he's so stubborn (but precious) in Constellations.
But for canon liukong, I think this song works more in Macaque's favor? Just with how Wukong shows through his actions that he still cares for Mac, but otherwise, he's all "Hmph!! ๐ค๐ค" huffy with him. And Mac wanting SO DESPERATELY to be in Wuk's life again, to be important to him again.... It reeks of desperation. Just Wukong being in his life in SOME WAY. Like, he isn't picky about it, but at every opportunity, every side remark that Wukong makes ("I only trust the people who are standing here right now") or something, Mac SNAPS to attention. He wants so badly to be on Wukong's good side, it's PATHETIC
And I love that from a canon standpoint of Wukong being like, "After everything with the Brotherhood and our fight and (maybe murder, we don't know), any relationship between us isn't going to work. There's no point."
And Macaque showing his own stubbornness, clenching his hands to his sides, refusing to give up. Wanting so badly to be valued, to be loved by Wukong, to be his friend again. He will not let their relationship fall off or be forgotten. It's not perfect, but he stays. He won't leave. He won't be forgotten. Just an annoying fly in Wukong's ear. A constant reminder of what happened between them that Wukong doesn't like to think about. But Macaque is insistent, and Wukong is slowly being forced to face it. Denial isn't going to work forever.
I don't know, I just really love this song. And it's so liukong core to me

Reposting some quick drawings I made a looonng time ago about clumsyshadow and a small storyboard animatic I did
The story was that Macaque waited for Wukong to return from JTTW. So there's no revenge arc. He got super mad about it because he took so long to come back and Ao lie told Macaque to not be angry at Wukong and everything. And they got closer but we all know how it ends. It's a sad ending that I never made, I had ideas for that
Also Wukong is soooo shipping them and he's like the friend who gives you advice to flirt but Macaque doesn't listen him because he's dumb
