hey, it’s been a hot minute (like 10 months lmao) but i thought i would drop in and share my thoughts on the sad news that is the end of sugar pine 7.
sugar pine 7 was an important part of my life and i invested many hours in watching, theorising, making shitty edits/videos, and interacting and being apart of the community. sp7 gave me countless moments of happiness and brought laughter into my sometimes darker days, i will always be thankful for that.
i was lucky enough to have met steven and james at rtxsyd in 2018. both boys were super sweet and seemed almost genuinely surprised that there were so many people half-way across the world willing to meet them. i remember going to their q&a, and despite the absolute shit show it was, they discussed some pretty serious topics. steve always knew the sp7/alternative lifestyle wasn’t going to be forever and even back then it seemed like he was ready to jump into the next thing. i remember him talking about dreams of becoming a production company and steve wanting to be completely behind the scenes. but they continued on, for the fans and for the community i suppose.
whilst i’m obviously sad that the channel is coming to a close for the foreseeable future, i’m glad they are able to move on before it all became too much. we all heard steven’s laments in the podcast on the past year of his life, echoed by cib and james’ experiences, and i truly think the end of sp7 is the healthiest thing for all of them. it’s a true testament to their friendship that they were able to withstand all the pressures and challenges that comes with maintaining a channel owned by a large cooperation and come out the other side still able to goof off and joke around with each other.
i wish the best of luck to not only the boys but all those who worked with sp7 at one time or another. and i express my deepest thanks for creating and producing something that was unlike anything i had ever seen on youtube. you all pushed boundaries and took risks that many creators wouldn’t do, and while it may seem like a failure now, i hope you look back one day and appreciate the world you created and the impact you had on so many viewers.
here’s to sugar pine 7.
