the thing you must understand about zoro is that he’s insecure. he’s soooo insecure. he’s insecure about his strength and he’s insecure about his place and he’s insecure about his destiny. and he bottles up said insecurities to the best of his abilities but sometimes they spill over despite himself and then he’ll lash out at people because of them. when he’s hard on others it’s usually because he’s hard on himself. to go into more fan speculation territory, i might venture to conjecture that perhaps a reason why he’s so tightly bottled up is because he’s insecure about his strength and how he’s perceived. and i say all this with the utmost love i think this makes him interesting <3

oh btw, i also think he’s insecure about his masculinity. i know he gets imagined as ultimate alpha macho man but like… his weird chauvinistic attitude towards showing emotion as “unmanly” does not scream internal security to me, considering a lot of very “manly” characters in one piece are very open about their emotions.
