A small pout escaped Haru in the other’s rebuff at her friendly endeavor. She’d noticed he had been keeping a certain distance between them ever since their encounter at the garden and was left in partial perplexity. Had she done something to make him uncomfortable or unwittingly left an ill impression? Haru was quick to take back her gesture, as she saw the man grow visibly more strained from her impetuous action. “Oh, is that so? I’m sorry..” Some of the puzzlement on her face went augmented, a part its expression discoloring itself in unveiled dejection. She hadn’t meant to cause him any such alarm, only to show some friendly gratitude.
She felt another slight blush tint the side of her face at the uncoordinated display she had made. Being dependent on others like this was certainly not something she liked, but somehow all but a few situations she found herself in had wound up causing it. “Ah, there was a small emblem next to my dormitory. It had two perpendicular swords diving a cerulean shield, I think? There’s also a pretty grouchy old man who owns a breadshop that I pass by on my way to school. Oh, and there’s a small auto shop I wave by to the family there every morning. There’s this one guy too that—” Haru’s words trailed off in an enlivened chatter, her eyes beginning to exude a cheery glimmer in her fervent prattle.
“It has nothing to do with you. I’ve just never been... fully comfortable around the opposite sex,” Lon’qu muttered under his breath, as he began to take a few steps in the right direction.
Though Haru’s recollection of the area went off on a tangent, he knew of where her home was. The first few details were all that were needed. It would be a bit of a walk to get there, and it was almost certain that the girl would give her life story along the way. After all, everything that she had spoken of so far had been delivered in such an energetic manner and a tangent had come up so quickly that it would be near impossible to not find out more about the girl.
“Let’s get going. I know where your home is. That sounds close to one of the high schools.”
Lon’qu turned away and began to stride forward. Needed to be off now before it got too late.
“It’s going to take some time. Make sure you keep yourself covered with the jacket. Your shirt is... sticking to your skin.”
Doutanuki had finally grown tired of his teachers consistent nagging. He found himself at the local bookstore after another lecture from his Greek teacher. The young man had no aspirations to continue on to college, so he felt his high school lessons were a waste of his time. It had taken him a month to finally get his Greek book that was required for the class. It wasn’t that he hated reading or anything he was just lazy with anything that didn’t interest him. He did like reading every now and then. He just hated when he had to read to fit someone’s time schedule.
He paced through the book shelves looking for any indication of the book he sought. To his regret he was unable to find the book just wandering aimlessly though the store. He was stubborn, so it took him some time to admit defeat, but he eventually caved in and admitted he needed help. He found himself behind a taller man who looked like he worked at the store and quietly tapped him on the shoulder. “Hey, uh, I need help finding this book it’s” he paused to take out a crumpled up piece of paper out of his pocket. The ink had become smudged up but he was still able to read it. “High school Greek literature volume 2″. Doutanuki didn’t think to give the man the author’s name.
It had been another boring day in the bookstore. Nothing eventful had happened; just the usual round of stocking and re-stocking the shelves of the store. With a box of books beside him, the dark haired man placed the hard cover and paperback novels into their proper places on the wooden shelves. Monotonous work.
When the voice of a teenager interrupted the silent air of the area, Lon’qu lifted his head up and met the other’s gaze. A literature book? Though it was normal for students to come in requesting books, it seemed a bit far into the academic year to start looking for textbooks.
No matter. He wasn’t being paid to criticize the work ethic of students when he hardly cared for his own years in high school.
“This way, sir.”
Lon’qu led the boy towards the history section, his dark eyes browsed the titles printed onto the spine as they walked. “...there are a lot of textbooks on Greek literature. Do you know the author?”
It had been unusual to see the man smile from what somber of an impression he had left with her in their encounter. She could say it was something quite dear and heartwarming to see, even. Haru had jumped and suddenly her arms were folded around the man, adrenalized back into lively animation. “That’s right! It’s very nice to meet you, Lon'qu!” Her voice carried itself in a wave of brimming optimism.
“Um, I don’t really.” She scratched the back of her head nervously . “Are we still even in..Kairos?” It was probably dreadfully obvious just how much Haru had lost her bearings.
It had been so suddenly that Lon’qu had barely the time to react. Though he had already began to lift his arms up to prevent her from embracing him, the effort was futile. Lon’qu grunted while she kept her arms around him. What was this? This was nothing that he wanted.
“Off. Get off.”
Now more forceful, Lon’qu lifted his arms up and brushed her aside. What smile had been on his face was wiped away by Haru’s zealous act of affection.
“If I’m to take you home, let’s make things clear. No touching. Stay a good distance away... I don’t do... well with women.”
There was another pause, then a sigh. Haru was more of an airhead then he had originally thought. She truly needed someone to guide her through the city streets. Gods, would she be alright after he left?
“Yes, this is still Kairos... Do you remember any landmarks near your building? Anything that could help me figure out where you live?”
Despite that the waterworks had already broke out on Haru’s face, it became flushed in a slight blush at the the man’s words. She had felt completely responsible for her impulsive actions and wanted to show her remorse, one way or another. The instant her fluctuating emotions had been sorted out, and perhaps if the opportunity arose to get to know the man better, she thought she’d tell him about the odd episode that had overcome her.
Haru was always of an honest character and often found herself rather overt in the way she wound up conversing with others. No matter what weaknesses she would demonstrate either, her strength was of an iron will and a resilient determination; Perhaps a tad stubborn, even. “ “Thank you, sir. Haru is extremely greatful, she’ll be sure to repay you in any way she can!“”
At least her tears were beginning to subside; that was a relief. The corner of his lip twitched slightly, and made the faintest hint of a smile. Very well, then. The pair of them needed to scamper away from the grim ally and search the city for her residence.
“Haru is your name? Mine is Lon’qu.”
It was a rather short and sweet introduction, but that was how the man was. There was no need for fancy words to make eloquent conversation. Things were rather simple for this one.
“Do you know the name of the street? Or the address?”

“You don’t have to explain, I understand.” Gentle words are accompanied with an even more softer smile, peachy hands placed upon shifting hips as cranium nods with confirmation, “I’m glad to have found you when I did, then, I was afraid I wouldn’t have gotten your attention, you know?"
&& there is a slight pause, a few seconds taken to focus on a decision–which was soon made.
"I’m Catherine, it’s nice to meet you–uhm–” && thus, ample room was given, in case the mystery male wanted to relinquish his name… or otherwise.
A nod was given as he listened to Catherine speak. It was a bit surprising for someone in the city to come after him, let alone randomly approach another person at all. Maybe he was too acclimated to the city life, and it had become normal for him and countless others to simply go along their way without an regard to what may be happening around them.
“Lon’qu.”
“Thank you, Catherine. It seems I am in your debt now.”
And it was a debt that he intended to repay in any way necessary. The muscles in his shoulders relaxed slightly once he took half a step back from the blonde. No, she had done nothing wrong, but it was instinctual for him to keep a bit of space between-- well, anyone really.

Of course Anna didn’t give this man a discount; she wouldn’t give her own sister a discount. The “discount” was really just the original price that she put on the sword. People tend to go for discounts; even if the price is ridiculous — they’re just more appealing.
» 【 “It’s not nearly as steep as you think it is, darling! I mean, this authentic, Japanese katana is pretty damn old — over 100 years, in fact. Honestly, I should be asking for more than 3589!” 】
Even with the dreadfully expensive price set on the katana, Anna still noticed the slight flash of realization on his face. She supposed that meant that he had finally recognized her, or that this katana could actually be worth all the money he had in his bank account. Though the chances were slim — very slim — she hoped it was the latter.
Anna leaned her elbows on the counter and laughed.
» 【 “Yes, I completely agree with you — no person in their right mind would ever think of keeping that much pocket change handy. However! That’s why my business is unique around here. If you write down your address or place of work for me, I’ll drop the item you’re purchasing off and you pay me there! It’s easy and hassle-free. Or! I can put a reserve on it today and you can come back tomorrow with the full amount tomorrow. I accept credit as well!” 】
A skeptical gaze was given to the merchant. Somehow the price didn’t feel like he would be making a wise investment. Despite this, Lon’qu still took his phone out from his pocket to check the status of his checking and savings accounts. It wouldn’t hurt to at least see if there was enough money there to put the blade on reserve.
Ah. That’s right, it was still the beginning of the month, and that meant--
“I just paid my rent and bills.”
He glanced over his shoulder to give the katana another once over. It wouldn’t do to keep it within the custody of this saleswoman. Knowing her, she was bound to find someone to sell it to by the time he returned with the sum from his paychecks by the end of next week or even the end of the month. Never mind how much he had in his savings. That sum was going to remain there for a true emergency.
“I only have 800,” her murmured as he looked over the numbers displayed on his phone. A few flicks of his thumb, and the page was logged out of before the man gave Anna a frown. “Let me have it-- I’ll work for you. Or pay in installments.”
beaches and babes? no thanks
A single, perfectly plucked eyebrow raises curiously towards the man. He was certainly gruff, to say the least. Did he act this way around everyone? Or was he just in a particularly off mood? Or, maybe, he was hungry. She had just watched him run, after all, and she knew that even after her own exercises she tended to get peckish. That, and she wasn’t about to let him get away just yet. She was still interested in him, after all, and she was going to do all she could to keep him around. If only until he proved boring, or otherwise grates her nerves. She watches as he stands, and nonchalantly stretches out for a moment, casually checking the time on her phone. “So soon?” Still rather early in the day, as well. In fact, now was the perfect time for… “I was going to get brunch after this.”
“You’re more than welcome to join~♥”
Was Isuke dense? Hadn’t he made it clear that he had no interest in keeping her company?
“Brunch? No, I’m not--”
Growl.
Of course his stomach would pick now of all times to voice that it needed nourishment. Was the man embarrassed? Perhaps, though he kept his voice as even as ever as he glanced down at the other. If they were to have brunch together, there were certainly going to be some ground rules that needed to be laid out. For starters, they would need to walk with at least three or four between them if they were to walk side by side.
“...How much longer will you be out...”
What was she doing, anyway? Sunbathing? Now that was a concept that Lon’qu could never grasp. Why would anyone voluntarily submit themselves to the heat?
“Sunbathing?”

Anna usually doesn’t like putting anything other than antique jewelry in her storefront, as that attracts people to the store, but the katana was just too valuable and cool-looking not to put there. She got it for quite a steal; the American who sold it to her obviously did not know anything about swords. The stand and hilt came with the sword as well, which is very exciting for a young antique merchant like her.
Sadly, the katana was purely for show and was dull as could be. That could be fixed, but honestly, that was something for the next owner to figure out. Sharpening blades is fairly expensive, from what she remembers. Definitely not worth money out of her pocket.
Just as she was daydreaming about the Japanese sword, a brown-haired man strolled and (somewhat rudely) asked for the price of the katana.
» 【 Hello to you too, handsome stranger. Oh hey! You’re that guy who worked with me at that restaurant a year back or something. Uhh, what was your name… Lon’qu, was it? 】
Getting caught by her hurricane of thoughts (which rarely happened while working), Anna tapped her chin. She faintly remembered the man, as he had something unique about him. Hm… Ah! He tended to keep a distance from all the women in the establishment; though, she definitely was not going to bring that up in conversation.
» 【 Anyway, sorry about that. The original price for that katana was 3589 euros, but I’ll bump it down to 3365 euros because we used to know each other (somewhat). 】
Had they worked together before? The redhead’s face did seem rather familiar, and looking back on his former jobs her statement about the restaurant seemed to fit. Ah-- that’s right, she was a server or hostess back then. And now a shopkeeper. What an interesting leap in jobs. As the man tried to search his memories for her name, the astounding price tag of the blade jarred his thoughts.
3589 to 3365?
That was hardly a discount, though it was likely more than the merchant would have given to any stranger who bothered to bargain for a lower price.
“That’s still a steep price, Anna.”
Oh. The name had slipped out so easily that it was a bit surprising. Perhaps it was the shock of the price that had jogged his memory. Wasn’t she the girl who would tell their fellow coworkers stories about rare items that she happened to get at prices so low, it could be considered a robbery?
“I don’t carry that much on me at any given time. The only ones who would have that much cash on them are fools.”
「☆」Tears began to well in Haru’s eyes, as they probed into the ground morosely. What a disgraceful thing she had done - threatening a mere stranger who was only trying to help her.She saw through his good-hearted honesty, but had gone and put up such a guard regardless. Her family had never raised her explaining those scars, having told her they were only from a “careless accident”. What it was had been beyond her. Haru didn’t want to appear hostile to the man any further, so her hands slowly unclasped the pipe and let it roll to his feet in a clamorous “cling” noise. “I really do apologize. I don’t know what came over me.”
“Wha--- why are you crying--!?”
Blast, now the girl was crying. It was bad enough that he was already incredibly uncomfortable around the fairer sex, but to add tears to the situation... Well, how was he supposed to comfort her? Comforting another had never been a strong suit of his when one considered how the years in the orphanage were rather lonely.
Lon’qu sighed, and put a hand to his forehead in frustration. Damn it all, and damn the gods that had mercilessly decided upon this path. “You don’t need to apologize, nor should you cry.”
“...You-- you’re still soaked. I’ll take you home.”

「☆」 As the older man caught up with her, Haru turned around, instilled and frozen in fear. Surely her common sense at this point would have to tell her that he meant no harm. Even so, goosebumps had rose the hair on her body and a shaking hand unconsciously reached for a leaden pipe that had been discarded near a bottle green dumpster, already surrounded by a number of other litter. Wiggling out of his grasp, she gently pushed him away and held up the pipe in only a half-hearted threat.
Her shock had still rendered her to act unlike herself, fear having consumed the last of her senses. And still, what was worst was that she couldn’t explain it. The triggering emotion that had suddenly set in from seeing her own scars had been certainly unusual. After all, they would reflect in the mirror every time she would so much as pull her shirt over her waist. It was a sight, no matter how dismal, that her eyes had grown accustomed to. Yet, how come such disturbance had washed over her at that single moment? She reckoned something terrible had to have happened, at a time and place that perhaps wasn’t now. Everything was still such a blur ; Her last hope was only to discard the thought for later. “I’m sorry… It seems I don’t have the best sense of direction…I only moved here recently..”
It was apparent that she was still spooked. And the pipe only re-enforced the fact that his presence wasn’t welcome. In a poor attempt to mediate the tense air that hung about, the man held his arms up in front of him. It was against his code to engage in combat with the fairer sex; not because he believed them to be inferior. It didn’t sit well with him to fight them, and, well, there was the fear they instilled in him to be considered as well.
“It’s alright,” Lon’qu said quietly. “I mean no harm and only followed to see if you were alright.”
There was a pause as he glanced at the pipe in her grip. If worse came to worst, there would hardly be a fight. The girl didn’t seem to give off the air of someone who was combat ready.
“If you wish, I’ll leave and let you be.”

After covering multiple shifts at the bookstore, the manager had blessed Lon’qu with a day off. Unfortunately for him, as soon as he finished his morning workout, the day still held many hours until it was time to head to the restaurant. And what was he to do with the remainder of the day? Well, considering how he had relatively few hobbies, the young man took to the streets.
Absentmindedly, he wandered through the winding paths of Kairos and allowed his senses to be filled with the sights, sounds, and smells of the island. Dark eyes passed over the numerous displays in the store windows. Sights varying from couples eating in cafes to the latest gadgets on a one day sale filled his view. It took some time before one window in particular caught his attention.
Black boots halted before the antique store’s display. In the window case was a a Japanese katana. Though the age of the item was unknown to him, it was clear that the craftsmanship was superb. From the sleek, shining black of the scabbard to the fine red threads that made the ornamental charm, Lon’qu could only imagine how finely made the blade was itself. Of course, he was fairly certain that the piece was purely ornamental and so the blade would be dulled, but that made no difference.
In one fluid motion, the glass door to the shop was pushed open. “Shopkeeper. How much for the blade in the window case?”
「☆」 A burning sensation filled up her lungs, as Haru struggled to breathe out with every passing minute of her fervent dash. She had noticed the man’s curiosity at her scars and for a moment felt both guilt and regret that she had been so insistent to obviate their existence from other people. He certainly seemed undoubtedly concerned, an emotion that made her grow only more guilt for causing to an honest stranger.
Haru rushed her way past the amassing crowd, with only an occasional gentle push of an “I’m sorry!” or an “Excuse me!” leaving her mouth in airy breaths, a small alleyway gradually coming into view in the horizon. As luck wouldn’t have it, the alley was merely a dead end vandalized of graffiti and littered trash.
“No..” She breathed out almost fully enervated, weakness giving out both her knees in a simultaneous collapse.
The situation was absurd, and the young man could hardly believe that he was so concerned over a stranger that he voluntarily chased after them. His jaw clenched as he hurried his pace. Unlike the girl, no apologies were given to those he pushed aside. There was no time to give words in passing, nor was there any point in wasting his breath on people that were going to leave his life immediately.
It seemed this girl had no idea where she was running to. As the pair turned off of the street and into the alley, Lon’qu was certain there would be a dead end up ahead. As a child, he had spent quite some time familiarizing himself with Kairos, and so navigating the bustling streets was no problem.
Though, the girl did deserve some praise. That was quite the run, and she had led them both incredibly far from the garden. It wasn’t until a faint “No” reached his ears that it became clear that despite how determined this girl was to escape that suffocating situation earlier, she had reached her limits.
As she collapsed, Lon’qu quickly dashed forward to close the gap between the two. With practiced ease, he caught her before she could collapse upon the grubby concrete of the alleyway.
“...Girl. Are you alright? You pushed yourself too far by running around like a chicken without it’s head.”
Was she even conscious? Perhaps he should find her medical attention and have someone more qualified care for her.
“A party...? In that small house? Too many people... too many women... Not enough exits, either.”
Lon’qu out.

003.
Trips to Kairos, while never really long, were always timed carefully so she could make the most out of her day. However, having gotten engrossed in nitpicking the information given in one of the newer language books that had arrived, she’d thrown herself off schedule by more than just a little bit. In her rush, the forgotten book had not been noted– not with the other bags she had held tight in her hands. The sudden intrusion of the young man from the bookstore in her path, therefore, was surprising, and she stopped short of crashing into him, taking a step back so as not to take up much more of his personal space than was necessary. Looking down at the parcel in his hands, she looked down into her bag and, after a quick perusal of the objects in her hold, flushed hotly and took the book offered to her with a smile. Though embarrassed, she was still grateful, tucking the book close for a moment.
“Thanks a ton, darlin’– I swear I’d forget my own head…” Pausing to set the book into the bag along with the others, she smiled again when she lifted her head, bringing a hand up to press to her chest once more. “Awfully sorry y’ had to come runnin’ after me though! I hope i wasn’t too much trouble…!”
It was clear that she had simply been absorbed in her own thoughts upon leaving the store. The genuineness of her smile was a welcome change of pace from the artificial ones that customers tended to flash at him and his co-workers while searching for their book of choice.
“You were of no trouble,” Lon’qu responded with a dismissive shake of his head. “My manager on the other hand was.”
It registered then that this woman had an accent. Strange. It certainly wasn’t one he had heard in the area before, but he supposed it was possible for her to be a tourist of sorts. Greece and it’s Mediterranean areas were popular, after all.
“That accent of yours. Are you a foreigner?”
“Oi, isn’t Matoi’s house pretty small.. Like.. How are we gonna fit?”
“Nah, she said we could hang out in the front lawn. Just don’t touch the basement, ‘cuz that’s where her dad works or somethin. Also, no cocaine in the bathroom.”
“Fair ‘nuff.”
It’s not even like there was a formal announcement or even a text message. Ryuko just decided it was time for a good old shindig. If you’re alive, you probably got an invite or at least heard about it. Even if you weren’t in high school - somebody would have still mentioned it in passing. There were only three key terms.
Bring yourself, bring food, and bring alcohol.
—————————————————————————————————————
Hi guys! Here’s the 411. Ryuko’s having a party. The party is happening Saturday the 9th - however, you’re welcome to post starters any time between Friday - Sunday; just try not to write something about this a week later, because that might confuse some people! It’s probably best to write something up before hand and then post it when the time comes! I want this “event” (not official in any way!) to be an opportunity for FRWers new and old to interact - whether it be a group thread or two people making out in the toilet. Go wild! And please, enjoy.
PSST: when the time comes, let’s use the tag #frw house party, so we can check out interactions and post starters etc. If anyone has questions, you’re free to ask (I dunno what questions there would be tho, just party). WOOHOO
