Saitama’s holy fists of rectification
The last few days of heavy webcomic revelations have me rather down; here’s a lighter note of a pattern I’ve noticed. Most successful life change gurus have simple messages, repeated endlessly until they drill themselves into brains.
And what’s the first thing that Saitama recommends? Get a job.
Genos comes to Saitama, says he’ll do anything if only Saitama will accept him as a disciple. So what’s the first ‘anything’ Saitama asks him to do? Get a job as a hero. Seems so simple. He whacks monsters and bad guys for free already, how hard can it be? The learning experience it has been to go from an itinerant vigilante to a hero with a fixed abode, formal expectations, being recognised and looked to to help, having to step into situations not because it’s safest but because it’s necessary, that’s been life-changing for Genos. It’s also meant having more spending money for nice clothes, so it’s not been all bad! :)

The next beneficiary of Saitama’s fist of rectification has been Dr Genus, who quit his take-over-the-world mad science and decided to sell takoyaki instead.*
…unfortunately, old habits die hard…
Suiryu, hanging around doing nothing useful with his life and being a bored bully doing as little as he could? Well, he’s decided he wants to be a hero now (this is manga-Suiryu, not webcomic-Suiryu who thinks the high-paying Neo Heroes is just an easy job).

It looks like Garou has heard Saitama’s message to repay his restaurant bill. He’s now working part-time as a mover. Good on him!
c’mon guys, just leave Garou in peace to rebuild his life
Hammerhead tried to get a job, but society finds it difficult to forgive things like knocking down buildings and kicking over cars without benefit of a stretch in prison. With any luck, he’ll be out soon enough. If Puri Puri can keep him safe.
The story treats NEETs (not in education, employment or training) as one of the great sources of trouble. It’s been so fun to see how many Saitama-influenced people start changing their lives by becoming productive citizens. As it should be.
