You were so excited when you saw the spread Iâd laid out. Your eyes went wide at the sight of the table, candles flickering, everything set so perfectly neat. However, it was the food that stole the show. Your favorite dishes, all of them. The kind you always âsave for special occasionsâ.
âWell,â you breathed, pausing in the doorway, one hand already brushing against your middle, âsomeoneâs feeling generous tonight.â
I smiled, stepping closer. âItâs your birthday honey. You deserve to be spoiled a little bit extra.â
You looked up at me with those gorgeous eyes of yours. A little bashful, a little flustered. So stunningly pretty. âIf you say so,â you whispered joyously.
You didnât say much during dinner. Just soft little noises, little moans, happy ones. You let yourself enjoy everything. Bite after bite, your posture slowly changed. At first you sat up straight, eating politely. But eventually you leaned back, your fork moving slower, your hand finding its way to your lap, resting lightly on your tummy.
âBaby,â you murmured around the last few bites of the creamy risotto, âthis is amazing, but Iâm sorry, Iâm already so full!â. I noticed the edge of a smile playing on your lips as you spoke. I knew you werenât properly full. Not yet at least.
I refilled your glass anyway, brushing my nails along your shoulders as I did, giving you a shiver. âThatâs the point,â I whispered. âBut tonight is different sweetie, you donât have to hold back. Not even a little.â
You laughed under your breath. âWhatâre you trying to do here honey? Are you planning on rolling me out of here?â
âMaybe,â I said, teasing. âBut only if youâre happy with that.â
You looked down at yourself, at the gentle roundness just starting to press against your shirt. The waistband of your leggings sat a little lower than usual, and your cheeks flushed the way they always do when you catch yourself enjoying the aftermath.
The candlelight flickered across your skin. You looked soft. Dreamy. Glowing.
âI made dessert, too,â I added, watching your eyes widen just a little.
I brought out the cake. Just a slice at first, I didnât want to get carried away just yet. It was rich, layered, a little over-the-top. Just how you like it.
You hesitated. Twirling your fork between your fingers, biting your lip like you were trying to talk yourself out of it. But then you looked up at me again. The way I was watching you, not with judgment, but with awe. You smiled, blushing, and gave in.
âOnly because itâs my birthday,â you said.
âOf course,â I whispered, brushing your hair behind your ear, and placing a kiss on your neck. âLet yourself enjoy it.â
And you did. Slowly. Bite by bite. You leaned back deeper into the cushions by the end, both hands cradling your stomach like you couldnât quite believe how heavy it felt now. How full and warm.
When I joined you on the couch, you curled into me with a cute sleepy little sound, your head resting on my shoulder, your belly pressed firmly into my side.
âMmph,â you mumbled, half-asleep. âYouâre gonna turn me into a balloon.â
I smiled and kissed the top of your head. âNo, baby. Iâm just reminding you feel how good it can feel to let go.â
You didnât answer at first. Just snuggled closer, breathing slowly, softly.
Then, so quietly I almost didnât hear it:
ââŚIt does feel kind of good.â
My hand found yours, still resting on that soft curve you were starting to get used to.
âYou look perfect,â I whispered. âHappy birthday, sweetheart.â
