that adhd fear when u wanna commit to smth so u get rly into it and then start to worry that this is just going to be another short lived hyperfixation and ull never return to it again
The adhd modes of food
1. You ate that burger so fast. You ate that burger so fucking fast and now the whole Red Robin is staring at you god what the fuck
2. You started eating like a normal person, but then you started talking or daydreaming and now the waitress is handing you the check but youâve still got half a plate of cold fettuccine
3. You were going to go out to eat, but then you saw a video in your YouTube recommendation that drew you towards it like moth to a flame, and now itâs 10 pm and youâve got an empty bag of tortilla chips in your hand and shame in your heart
4. Mac And Cheese
5. You got engrossed in a project, suddenly you feel like youâre going to die, or faint, or both? Oh. youâre hungry.
6. Youâre hungry. But every food you can think of sounds disgusting. Time for your 15th day of lunchables for breakfast in a row.
i KNOW the sleep tips, google. trust me, i know about the darkness and the light and evil screens and exercise and meditation and not napping. i know âââhowâââ to sleep. what i need you to tell me is how to convince my fuckass adhd brain that i need to give up on doing things for the day and that the hours between midnight and five a.m. are NOT secret free extra time that no one will notice if i steal

Humanities student aesthetic for @gcldendays
How much longer until the utopic Solarpunk future where Capitalism is dead and we all live in ecologically sustainable high-tech forest cities? Asking for a friend.
Until we make those ecologically sustainable high-tech forest cities ourselves. Itâs going to take a lot of us to do it though, so best to spread the word (and gather native tree seeds).
And, like, get started now. Then our âweirdo housesâ will be the only thing functioning when everything falls apart!
The only reason why we donât live in a solarpunk world right now is because no one has bothered to make it yet.Â
Weâll have to make it ourselves, and weâll have to help each other make it. Thatâs why it is solarpunk.Â
Some resources to consider creating or joining or doing:
Repair cafes - create or join your local repair cafe! Repair stuff, learn how to repair stuff, teach others how to repair stuff.
Map of Makerspaces - make some things! learn how to make some things! teach others how to make some things!
Community Garden Map (note that this is US-only, and not a complete list) - join a local community garden
Support your local farmers / local economy (US only link)
Support or create a local Food Not Bombs chapter
Support or create a local Food Not Lawns chapter
Grow food in 5 gallon buckets
Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity (as a bonus you can learn extremely practical skills)
Volunteer via 350.org to help the environment / the planet / the place we live and depend on
Excellent-and-still-growing wiki from redditâs awesome r/zerowaste community - great resource to learn how to live more lightly on the earth
Spread the word about solarpunk, especially to engineering students. Show them projects like Open Source Ecology - Global Village Construction Set and Bridges for ProsperityÂ
Learn how to Patch a Hole, Mend a Seam, and Fix a Hem
Learn how to repair a hole in the sole of a shoe
Learn some basics on passive solar design - clever use of the sun can create extremely energy efficient homes and buildings. You can use these principles to save on energy bills, even if youâre renting.
Free USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning, 2015 revision - cut down on personal food waste! Learn how to safely preserve food. Very useful if you suddenly harvest / purchase for crazy cheap in season / dumpster dive a ton of perishable food.
Donate to One Acre Fund, which provides training and capital to farmers (making them more productive and pulling them out of poverty) in various east African countries
Donate to Bridges to Prosperity, which provides technical expertise, money, and volunteers, to help local people build and maintain their own footbridges in extremely isolated rural areasÂ
joining r/solarpunk, and sharing links/ideas/art/music with the community. Also, upvoting stuff for greater visibility. Thereâs over 900 members!
Adding a few!
Replant scraps from your produce
Graft fruit-bearing branches onto ornamental trees in your area
Turn plastic waste into pretty much any plastic thing you need, in your garage, with machines built out of cheap and accessible parts
Make your own paper out of recycled paper or cardboard
Build a composter or a wormery
Harvest rainwater
Mod your toilet to flush gray water (used sink/shower water, or even that rainwater youâre harvesting)
Build a solar collector on the cheap
Build a wind turbine on the cheap
Build a hydroelectric water wheel on the cheap
Get internet access without going through cable companies using cheap, low-tech equipment
Make your own beer, cheese, soap, wine⌠really anything you can make rather than buy is a success!
And HELP YOUR NEIGHBORS! Donât just build/grow/mod/repair your own stuff, help them do it too! Share it! Depend on each other! Work together and grow closer with your community!
âAll right,â said Susan. âIâm not stupid. Youâre saying humans need⌠fantasies to make life bearable.â REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE. âTooth fairies? Hogfathers? Littleââ YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES. âSo we can believe the big ones?â YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING. âTheyâre not the same at all!â YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YETâDeath waved a hand. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOMEâŚSOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED. âYes, but people have got to believe that, or whatâs the pointââ MY POINT EXACTLY.â
â Â Terry Pratchett, Hogfather (via smartbutuncertified)
If you struggle with anxiety, overwhelm, or just plain feeling like a failure, I have a mantra for you thatâs been really helping me out lately:
Just show up.
I used to skip class because the whole thing was so overwhelming: I had to get dressed in something clean even though I never had the energy to do laundry, walk to school, sit in class for up to three hours, plus pay attention, take notes, and participate in discussion. In reality, I was being a perfectionist, and life would have been a lot easier for me if I had Just Shown Up. By staying home because of my depression and anxiety, I wasnât giving myself the chance to do any of that. I was such a perfectionist that being a âbadâ or average student was unthinkable, so I stopped being a student at all.
If youâre having trouble getting something done, Just Show Up. You donât have to be employee of the month. You donât have to be valedictorian. Just Show Up.
ime it also helps to be like âyou dont have to stay the whole time, you just have to goâ bc most of the time once youre there itâs fine. a lot of things are like that, like⌠you dont have to finish the dishes, just start them. a lot of the time once you start a task itâs easier to finish than to stop, especially if you can trick yourself like âafter five more minutes if i still feel bad iâll go homeâ or âafter washing two more dishes i can stop for todayâ
even if you donât finish the task, you started it, and by completing part of it you lessened your future workload and ALSO taught your brain that things may not be as daunting as they seem
This is wisdom! Peace!
you know what years of therapy taught me - Redefine success
so what if no one else gets how the things you define as successes are victories because you have to
so you got to work - success
you used public transport - success
you went to the supermarket instead of ordering online and didnât just buy things you dindât want because you got scared - MASSIVE success
Redefine success, your body moved the goal posts, there is no shame in acknwoledging that
âBut the 8-hour workday is too profitable for big business, not because of the amount of work people get done in eight hours (the average office worker gets less than three hours of actual work done in 8 hours) but because it makes for such a purchase-happy public. Keeping free time scarce means people pay a lot more for convenience, gratification, and any other relief they can buy. It keeps them watching television, and its commercials. It keeps them unambitious outside of work. Weâve been led into a culture that has been engineered to leave us tired, hungry for indulgence, willing to pay a lot for convenience and entertainment, and most importantly, vaguely dissatisfied with our lives so that we continue wanting things we donât have. We buy so much because it always seems like something is still missing.â

routines
Developing morning and evening routines has made a huge difference in my life! Giving my brain time to start the day instead of trying to rush right into work feels great, and having a bedtime routine helps me get in the mode for sleep a lot easier (which is very helpful if, like me, you suffer from trouble sleeping).
Morning routine âď¸đź
1. Wake up and make the bed (this was one of my New Years resolutions for this year and it might sound strange especially because I live alone, but coming home to that nicely made bed at night is so strangely rewarding)
2. Stretches and a set of squats
3. Morning vitamins + pills and teeth brushing while the shower water heats up
4. Turn on This American Life or NPR news to keep me company
5. Shower
6. Full body moisturization (I love this one because it feels luxurious and gives me a few last moments to myself)
7. Get ready for work/wherever Iâm going if itâs not a work day
Nighttime routine đđ¸
1. Hot bath and a huge mug of green tea and/or some dark chocolate
2. Listening to music time (usually classical or jazz)
3. Full body moisuturization (yes, again. Itâs just something I like!!)
4. Nighttime vitamins + soluble fiber (so great for digestion) + teeth brushing
5. Stretches and a set of squats (another repeat!)
6. 30 minutes of reading in bed
7. Sleep time
what are your routines? I love to know everyoneâs little habits and am always tweaking and improving my own.
