I have a color system. For example, if I am studying pathology, I highlight diseases in pink, treatments in blue, genes in orange, etc. I don’t write much in color; I do underline in color though, e.g. symptoms in pink, locations in purple.

It may be harder to develop a color-coding system if you are studying a myriad of different subjects (like science, math, French, and psychology all at once), but you can try to develop a general color system. Back when I did take a variety of classes, I would use the general system of highlighting very important statements in orange, main ideas in yellow, new/key terms in gold and underlining significant details in blue.

Here is a list of places I know of, but you’ll have to check to see if they are accessible where you are:

Online at Amazon or JetPens. For Japanese products that are slightly on the pricier side, but high quality and worth the money for my purposes. Check out JetPens to find the pen to suit your needs (there is literally a pen/highlighter to solve any writing issue you can think of), then hop over to Amazon to see if you can find it cheaper.

Daiso (Japanese $1.50 store). For adorable notebooks, sticky notes/page flags, or cheap binders to archive old class notes.

Asian stationary stores. For stationary ranging from high quality Japanese products (more expensive) or simply cute stationary of lower quality (less expensive).

Target’s Dollar Spot. I know many people who shop here for sticky notes/page flags, memo pads, and pens/pencils, but I personally do not like the pens/pencils (ordinary/cheap) nor the sticky notes (not sticky). However, their designs are cute and sometimes there are very useful items there like expanding paper files or desk organizers.

Muji. A studyblr favorite for pens and notebooks. It’s harder to access, but you can purchase their items online (Amazon or at their website).

True confession: my desk is extremely messy right now ;p but here are some ideas for desk organization:

1) Use glass/ceramic jars/cups or other storage containers that you may have lying around, or check out your local dollar store.

2) DIY a desk organizer. Here’s a tutorial to make one like in the image, or you can just Google/YouTube “DIY desk organizer” for tons of other ideas.

3) To save desk space, you may consider wall storage. All are made with a BYGEL rail with hanging containers from IKEA; alternatively you could hang pails/baskets on Command hooks.

4) Another space-saving option is an under shelf basket (a.k.a. hanging shelf basket) attached to the edge of your desk. You can purchase these at IKEA, the Container Store, and online (i.e. Amazon). There are also slide-out versions for easy accessibility!
